Harbor Freight Scissor Lift

I've searched for some detail on Harbor Frieght's scissor lift (which costs about $1000).

Does anyone have any specific experience with this lift?

I'm sure there's some value in paying more for another brand, but I have not been able to find any first hand critiques of the HF lift. For the money, it seems difficult to beat.

Thanks.

I purchased this lift: http://www.harborfreight.com/automo...ands/6000-lb-capacity-scissor-lift-91315.html

I ordered it on Easter with a 25% coupon. I like it and have only used it a couple of times so far, but it lifted by 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x2 just fine. I made a table top for it in the garage for when I'm not using it I can use it as a table.

You will notice in my pics that I purchased some of the large harbor freight 2ton stands to help with safety on the lift. I figured better safe than sorry.

L8r,

Kevin

I've known a few people with them, and they've all said it's a great lift for the price. I think the model is 110v even though the description sometimes says 220v.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look for a coupon that works and see if I can pick one up.

Kevin, how long did it take to be delivered?

Thanks.

Mine only took like 9 day to get delivered. I ordered on Easter Sunday, April 8th and received it on the 17th. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick I received it after ready the description on harbor freights website.

I understand the "regular" 20% off coupons exclude lifts. Are there other coupons out there that I can use on one of these lifts?

Thanks.

Yea I noticed that. But what about without them?

I thought about what it would be like. But I would always have that "thought" in the back of my mind. Perhaps I am paranoid.

I've never heard of any scissors lift failing -- and that includes never hearing of a Harbor Freight scissors lift failing. I've heard of MANY jack stand failures. But you never see any outcry when they get discussed.

looks like they have 2 different ones. The grey one $1000 is 6000# but lifts to a lower height than the blue $1400 6000#, Also they are both shown as on backorder.

the bend pack scissor 6000@ capacity lifts 53" is $2000 and weighs 954,
the blue HF lifts 56" and is 897pounds,
the grey HF lifts 39" and is 832pounds

Interesting, I like this thread, I was wondering the same thing about the Harbour Freight scissor lifts.

Greg Smith Equipment seems like a good option, works on 110V and doesn't seem to be back ordered...

My concern is the height of the lift to drive over it... my car is very low. I guess I could always put strips of rubber mats or build ramps on each side :-\

Greg Smith scissor lifts mention 5 1/4" lowered height, what is the lowered height of the Harbour Freights ???

7" minimum height with the lift pads on. If you took them off it would be around 5-5.5". They would need to be re-installed to lift, but would get you onto the lift. That is for the blue one. The grey one lists 3 7/8" minimum height.

Thanks for the info Kevin!

The grey one from HF at $1000 is interesting to me at 3 7/8" to drive over... with a 39" lift height... for $400 extra, the Greg Smith raises to 53"!!!

ybnormal70, It’s a good thing you got the high jack stands to use to stabilize the truck. I got the same jack stands and use them when I really need to wrench hard on a vehicle up on my two post lift. The stands do a great job keeping the vehicle steady.

I was seriously thinking at one time to get a scissor lift but was concerned about the roller wheels messing up the concrete. I think I’ve seen where some people have put down plate steel for the wheels to ride on. I see in your picture tracks from the wheels on the concrete, do the wheels roll easily without damaging your concrete?

Nothing against HF (i buy stuff there all the time), but I would be kind of hesitant to use a lift like that. It looks scary!

The Greg Smith options sound good.

For me, at least, I can drive to one of their showrooms (about an hour away) to look at it (if displayed) and purchaseit/pick it up.

Greg Smith has showrooms in DE, IN, FL, GA, NH, and AZ--not close enough for everyone, but it's an option.

I like the model that has a 53" lift capability. Certainly better than the HF--all other things being equal.

Thanks.

I bought a motorcycle lift and parts washer from the Indianapolis store and they have everything they sell on display inside their showroom. They've got a decent sized warehouse, so it seems they tend to try to keep everything instock ready for pickup. They will also load it for you.

the $1100 Atlas 6000# is 1050pounds, im kinda liking this over the maxjax, I could get 2 of these and put tables like above, on them hmmmmm

Found this thought you might be able to use it for insight.

MaxJax vs. Mid-Rise

The main difference is the under-car access

I don't know about harbor freight lifts, but I've heard some ok reviews about greg smith.

Another good choice is garage equipment supply, I always have a good time dealing with them. I believe they have the BendPak version of that lift, which is always a plus.

http://www.gesusa.com/Specialty-Lifts-s/27.htm

Looks like they have some cheap alternatives to the bendpak too.

Either way, good luck with your search.

Figured I should post up in case it helps somebody else. I'm a lurker at this site, but took delivery of the Harbor Freight lift today. Everything said 220, the manual, the sticker on the motor. I had figured I'd get an electrician out next week to run the power to the garage. In the mean time, I threw a plug on the cord and gave it a shot. It picked up my land rover with no issue, so 110 seems like it will be fine for me.

I have one of the Greg Smith mid-rise lifts. A friend with a body shop and I went together to Greg Smith in DE and each bought one. Brought them home in my trailer. we both have been well pleased.

220 lift pumps will operate at 110 but you will damage it. Installers normally only operate them at 110 to bleed lines if 220 is not hooked up

I have one of the HF 39" mid rise lifts.

I have only lifted my 1600 lb Brunton Stalker, but would really miss it if I did not have it any more.

I tried to lift my BMW 525i but I could not get the lift pads to reach out to the pickup points on the car.

I made a couple ramps using 2x10's to get me enough clearance to drive on with the pads installed, but on my car it is easy to put the pads on when the car is over the lift.

I have no issues with safety but the brake cable used to release the mechanical stop broke and I am waiting for a replacement from HF under warranty. I have thought about making a pneumatic release, but in the meantime I am able to release it manually and hold it up with a screwdriver.

Very happy with my purchase.

More talk about the actually "quality" of these lifts and less about their safety as everyone is saying the same thing, "you trust your life with china ****?"

9/10ths the worlds saftey devices come out of china smh.

Mine has been working fine. I did kink my safety release cable, but called HF support and they sent me a replacement at no charge. It did take 6-8 weeks to get here, but reasonably happy with the service.

1) How heavy are these units, say how easily to drag it in and out of the garage to about 50 feet away?
2) can some one post a pic from bottom of car and see how much work room is block by the jack after it is being lifted, needed to see how easy it is to work on exhaust/brake lines with those jacks, probably better than jack stands that is lower. but not sure if thye would be in the way.

You can download the manual or look at the specs. at the HFT web site item # 91315 and the Corvette Forum, your scissor lift pics. shows what it looks like underneath a Bend Pack scissor lift from both front and rear. Hope this helps, Jack 60

Mine is not a Harbor Freight lift, but it's pretty much the same unit.....

here are some pics showing how much room there is when my MINI is on the lift....however you'll notice I have the lift cylinders at the other end of the lift, I did this on purpose as it opens up the area under the motor completely. My car weighs about 2800 lbs, so I'm a long ways from testing the capacity of this lift.

Thank you, excellent photos. I ordered the HFT scissor lift on March 9th, it's been back ordered. Found out it was shipped this morning. One of four that came in, was told about 10 had been ordered recently. Hope to see it within the next few weeks. Thanks, Jack 60

Also purchased a set of four 2 ton under hoist safety stands item #60759. This is a new item # they are painted silver now instead of orange. Just a little extra insurance and piece of mind. Ybnormal70 has a picture of the orange stands in an earlier post. Jack 60 Today!

Thanks, let me download their thing and see, I have a long narrow driveway so trying to get something convenient, fits and high lift....might be a pipe dream at this point

Jagmandave: excellent idea on that ramp that I definitely can build and use.
