Ok so I own a hf 44 and love it. Problem is I filled it. I would like to buy another. So my questions are...

should I go with a top box?

Should I buy another 44 and work on filling it?

Should I get the 18in side cabinet for it?

Can you use a coupon on the tool box?

Now my box is stationary and I do not move it " much ". I am just a hobbiest who enjoys working on my own cars and trucks along with some friends. I will say I do not have enough to fill another box, but the collection continues to grow.

Thanks for all your help.

I added two of the 7 drawer end cabinets to mine and once I filled those up then I bought the top cabinet.

I prefer having the top box, so I don't always have to bend over to get tools (bad back).

What's your space like? If you can afford the width of two bottoms it would make a nice workspace. Of course, it's always easier to go up. So, if another 44"er cramps your space, go the route of a top box.

Another bottom box or a top box? Well that is up to you based on do you have the room? Do you use the top of the box?....etc
I would do another bottom and put them together as a workbench with some overhead storage....but that's me

This is what I would do IF you have bench space elsewhere. IMHO, the top of a toolbox is not a real bench, but it works for small work and layout.

Buy another 44" roller cabinet...

And...

Do something like these two...

Come up with a ten foot piece of bowling alley, and you're off!!!

i had the same "problem". filled up the single 44 & bought another 44, which is only ~1/3 full now. iirc, the top chest is $300ish & you get a whole lot more space by buying another 44 (providing you have the room) for an extra $50 or so.

Id go with 2 bottoms rather than one above, if space is not an issue.

I ran into this identical problem. After kicking it around, for weeks, I bought another 44" bottom box. Loved it.

I'm moving to buy another, here rather shortly.

I've got two 44s joined together by the 7 drawer end cabinet, and the short locker style end that they once sold on the other end. I've also got a Snap on 722 and a couple of Craftsman 26" stacks from the 70's.

At this point the wall o harbor is basically storing mostly consumables, and less used items. After organizing things into the 722 the extra drawer depth was just what I needed. If it were me, I would go for a 56" with more depth. Still easy to move around if needed, and will give you more than enough room for a good tool collection.

I have a 56 with two Craftsman top boxes. use the 56 for machinist tools and the Craftsman boxes for standard and metric. In the new shop I plan to cut down some card files and build them in under a work bench and use the 56 for multi purpose tools which will be mobile. We'll see how that works.

I would probably get a side cabinet and the 5 drawer cart, rather than a whole new box.

Just depends on your space, budget, and how many more tools you expect to get.

If you have plenty of room in your garage, how about getting the 26" 16 drawer box? It's basically a top and bottom box for a total of $319. Since you already have the 44" with it's longer and deeper drawers, you can use the 26" for smaller items.

I went with the sidebox w/drawers. I cant believe I filled it up, but i wanted everything setup a specific way. I dont like EVERYTHING inside the giant top drawer really, so I used that to store bulky items and used the rest of the drawers.

I would get another base unit. Either HF 44", 56" ... or pick up something different off Craig's List. I just sold off two of my top boxes, base toolboxes with work space tops is the way to go!

if you absolutely have the room - i would buy another 44", and joing them with the "side drawer" add-on unit, and make a work table like this - not mine, but saved this picture when i was deciding on my own set up.. ultimately, i went with the top, bottom, and 1 locker. but if i had a bigger space, i would have done this:

I have the old crinkle finish ones. I hate that the new ones don't match anymore. I have two 26" bottom boxes that I'd like to replace with another 44".

Why does no one mention the mesterforce boxes from menards on GJ . they are only a few hundred more than the hf boxes and they blow them out of the water and they offer more colors then boring red .

There is a Harbor Freight and Menards near me. I have looked at both. IMO the latch setup on the Menards Masterforce Boxes are the big selling point for me. Comparing the HF 44" to the Menards 41, I like the drawer layout of the Masterforce. I do paint and body work for a living, and everything is odd sizes. I have a 60" Cornwell with a side locker, but I am contemplating buying a Masteforce 41" to use as a roll around and stuffing it with everything that I use daily. Still cheaper than buying a cart from the tool trucks.

I have 1 44", and 1 side cabinet. I built my work bench tall enough that they slide under it. Works good for me.

i think its just because there arent many around. ive never even heard of them before until this board, and the nearest on for me is in OHIO.. not exactly close. however, their boxes do look nice, and the top and bottom 41" is on sale for $799.. cant comment on any difference in quality - but for the money im VERY impressed with the US General tool boxes.

If everything goes right tomorrow, my POS 44 will be a curb alert. If you want to drive and get it you can have it. I will keep you posted.

What problem are you having with your "pos" 44? I've heard nothing but good things about them and I love mine.
