Update #2 Installation/ cheap universal locks that work perfect
I did install the
Home Depot (HD) Defender Security U-9941 Universal cabinet and drawer locks sku 475065. Another nearby HD store had a half dozen matching ones with the same lock code.
The installation details below
will be very easy to understand once you take out the corresponding lock from the tool box, and set up the universal locks in the same fashion; it took me 20 minutes.
For the upper unit I used the existing hook and screwed it onto the new lock with the kit's locking washer and locktite. The kit works well, I can make copies of keys if I need to, the code number of the keys can be stored and a matching lock can be found in HD with a new lock purchase or call the company, and a lock smith can always create a key by filing down a blank in about an hour. The square holes on the HF and HD locks are different but with the HD's locking washer and loctite it was a very snug fit. Both locks have a flat edge on the threads to place in a vise or wrench to tighten the screw down.
Installation procedure: For the top unit you will need to place the 90 deg bracket first then the 180 deg bracket to make it flush, then the hook, then locking washer, then screw.
For the Lower unit their is a 180 deg turn bracket with the HD kit to make them turn 180 deg like the original HF lower lock. I took one of the HD kit's tabs and bent it at 90 deg. as close to the mounting hole on the tab as possible. When bent and screwed down to the lock the tab pointed out the back of the lock and is fairly centered. I drilled a hole where the rod from the tool box lined up with the tab (Alignment note: pull the tab to the front snugly, it can fall back an inch or two and the turning mechanism falls out of the system in the back locking straps. BUT - It does not have to be snug to the actual lock to stay in place. It looked roughly 1/4" away from the assembled HD lock's pan head screw.) Test that the bar is working and make a mark through the bar's tab onto your bent tab with a sharpie. Pull out the lock, punch and drill a hole). I bolted the tab and tool box arm together with a small bolt (#8 bolt will work you have roughly 3/8" surface area to work with at the least, or use the existing cotter pin) and voila works perfect. Note: The rod has a lot of play vertically and horizontally probably 6 inches in any direction. The fact that the tab is offset to one side of the lock or the other does not matter.
Installation Note: 180 deg, then 90, then bent tab, then locking washer, then screw.

Go to youtube and watch the video on how to change the locks and it will show you how to take out the drawers. I took out half of them in 2 minutes and worked looking upward easily.
update - If you order them together they will come keyed alike, put KEY ALIKE/SAME CODE # in the order notes too someone said.

I was shocked! I thought it would be $39 for all five locks. I just paid $4 something for brass ones at home depot but with normal keys, although I couldn't find enough matching codes on the back for the same key.
FYI it's a 5/8 wide an 5/8 long barrel or 16mm.
I was trying to find other options for more keys. The barrel locks below are the same as what comes on the toolbox (except you have to use the old hook or make one with a grinder) for only $11 and will come keyed alike for how many you order at once. Hopefully this will save the next guy $20+ each lock. I'm going to find something cheaper with a normal key and will update.
