hardware storage

So this pandemic, I was bored and got a wild hair. I decided to sort through my boxes and storage tubs full of hardware and fasteners and get organizized. I cleaned the garage and spread out all my hardware on the floor.

I built this handy dandy hardware cabinet I call the hardware pantry. It's 30" tall, 15" wide, 30" deep. Inside are 12 of those plastic "craftsman" brand organizers from Lowes, 6 on each side of the "pantry". I still ended up with overstock of three 27g Commander storage tubs of nails, screws, and bolts. But now I can also get to what I need quickly.

Full disclosure.
Mistake one: I used regular duty drawer slides. Duh! That stuff is heavy. Need to replace with HD ones. i had the slides laying around from an old project. It works but makes me nervous and sags a bit at full extension. I put a single slide on the top so it's got triples, but that top slide really only stabilizes, not increase load capacity.

Mistake 2: Made bad size choices for the cabinet. My whole storage system is based on 20" widths, so why the heck did I build it 15" wide? I'm getting old and the brain isn't what it used to be.

That's pretty neat! It looks like it's hidden in plain sight.

Looks like you've got it mounted on a substantial shelf, so hopefully no worries about it tipping over when the whole thing is extended.

Are the organizers somehow fastened together or to the framework of the drawer?

Nicely done. As to the getting older comment, wait awhile. It gets better.

I used to do facilities maintenance for a bank, the tellers coin drawers were tough on slides.

My predecessor frequently had to replace them and he used the lowest price slides. When I did my first set I used high quality heavy duty slides, my supervisor wondered why I bought such expensive slides until he realized they had a lower life cycle cost.

The pallet rack beams are bolted to the uprights. The shelf is bolted to the beams and supported by 2x6s 16" oc. The cabinet box is bolted to the shelf. All the hardware drawer boxes are bolted to the cabinet frame. The only thing I'm worried about is the drawer slides crumpling and dumping my neatly organized hardware on the floor. That would be a huge disappointment. HD slides are on the way.

I was going to ask what the slides are rated for but you somewhat addressed that issue already. I like thought of putting them in a sliding pantry style location.
