So this pandemic, I was bored and got a wild hair. I decided to sort through my boxes and storage tubs full of hardware and fasteners and get organizized. I cleaned the garage and spread out all my hardware on the floor.
I built this handy dandy hardware cabinet I call the hardware pantry. It's 30" tall, 15" wide, 30" deep. Inside are 12 of those plastic "craftsman" brand organizers from Lowes, 6 on each side of the "pantry". I still ended up with overstock of three 27g Commander storage tubs of nails, screws, and bolts. But now I can also get to what I need quickly.
Full disclosure.
Mistake one: I used regular duty drawer slides. Duh! That stuff is heavy. Need to replace with HD ones. i had the slides laying around from an old project. It works but makes me nervous and sags a bit at full extension. I put a single slide on the top so it's got triples, but that top slide really only stabilizes, not increase load capacity.
Mistake 2: Made bad size choices for the cabinet. My whole storage system is based on 20" widths, so why the heck did I build it 15" wide? I'm getting old and the brain isn't what it used to be.
