That's a good looking truck,
I used to work for a municipality and was charged with purchasing the vehicles. I got to know the people at our local GMC dealership and one of the salesmen knew my Dad.
Every two years a man would trade for a new truck, when he did the salesman would call and tell me, so I would call and tell my Dad who would go buy it for my Mom. I would then go to Mom and buy her old truck.
This happened every two years for a while. Dad passed away and Mom had the 97 for quite a while but I always said to her when she was ready to get a new truck the 97 was mine. When Mom passed I inherited it.
It has 89,000 miles on it and is the quickest truck I own. I love my red truck.

What a great story. And a stepside!

Wish I had kept my regular cab short box !

Pat and I took Kay out for her birthday today. She turned 28 today.
First we went to copper Hill, it is on the Tn. Ga. State line, literally.
20201120_134737.jpeg
This blue stripe runs through the UGO grocery store parking lot across the street through the buildings and through town. Copper Hill is an old copper mine town, there is copper slag from the mine piled everywhere. Now it's a tourist destination full of shops.
Then we went to Murphy N. Carolina to a flea market and a rock shop.
Then we came back thru Blue Ridge Ga. but we didnt stop there.
Then we went to Chilhowee mountain in the Cherokee national forest it is about 10 minutes from the house.
20201120_161420.jpeg
It was smokey
20201120_162346.jpeg
There is a forest fire still burning on big frog mountain.
20201120_162353.jpeg
My house is right over there, see it!

Kay the birthday girl
Then we went to Cleveland Tn for Dinner at Longhorn steak house. Kay had the steak, Pat had the wild west shrimp, and I had a rack of bbq ribs.
Then we came home and had homemade chocolate pie. What a day.

I miss my 95 stepside... I installed oversized tires... Was in a blizzard once... cleaned the windshield and drove 140 feet uphill in 3 feet of snow... it plowed into the grill but made it out of my driveway on one pass (4wd low) (&slow)

Engine had a bunch of leaks... leaking from somewhere around the timing chain cover... leaking between the engine and bell housing... I decided to trade it in. Dumb move... shoulda fixed it... kept it... painted it red (it was black)

I got the roof panels mocked up today. I need to drill holes to bolt the four sections together and weld some alignment clips to the main rails. The roof will come off in four pieces.
20201121_114232.jpeg
Trimmed the corners
20201121_151200.jpeg
Welded the perimiter rails around the outside
20201121_151117.jpeg
I added four more vertical rails to the centers to help support the perimiter rails. Then I started drilling holes in the main support rails.

Last shed I built... with wood... roof system... somehow I measured all the rafters wrong when I cut them. half were 2" too long and half were 2" too short... ask my why the roof is not dead center of the building... go ahead I dare you... ask me...

The roof is perfectly centered... it's the building that's not in the right place. The Mrs suggested cutting the 2" off the longs and glue it on the shorts. I was speechless. And truly never wanted to discuss it again.

I will mention the ridge was wonky as well... tilted a bit...

I'm not someone you want helping you build roof structures... just leave it at that.

HJ, that is coming together nicely. I'm always interested to see how you tackle your projects and the way you design them. It looks like you know what you're doing.
I like how you planted the seed for the shop expansion with your wife. :D

How have you been?
I guess that comes from the old days(when I worked) I was the one that had to think 10 steps ahead of the group. It's just a big 3D jig saw puzzle only I get to cut the pieces to fit the hole.

My ex wife made the mistake of bringing me here for a family reunion from Chicago. I stayed and sent her home. This is the most beautiful place I have ever been.

This pic is literally 10 minutes from the house
20201120_162353.jpeg
Same place different angle. Our house is in that pic. Next time I go up there I need to take my big camera and see if I can single it out.
A few miles up the Ocoee river is where the 98 Olympic water events were conducted. Class 4 white water rapids hiking and camping.
Keep smoking that meat it looks delicious.

HJ, I am doing good thanks. Just trying to psychologically prepare for our 50 shades of gray winter we tend to have here in the PNW.
I really like the view from that outlook you posted. Have you picked out a powder coat color for the gazebo yet? Do you plan to put roofing on it?
I appreciate the updates to your thread, you just keep getting it done! :3gears:

Uncle Willie
It started out as a damaged hog fence panel. I cut the top run off and rolled it by hand then rolled the next one smaller. Then I cut short pieces and mig welded them in like railroad track. It took about two hours and dosnt have to be perfect. The greenery hides any flaws.
It hung between the pillars of the main building at Bachman School for many Christmas seasons.
Jay
Buddy I feel for you on that winter stuff. I spent 43 years in Chicago I can only imagine a winter in the PNW.
I'll keep you occupied all winter[emoji106]

So have you recovered enough to walk yet, or are they still pushing you around in a wheelbarrow after eating all that.

Got out of the wheelbarrow but still leaning on the wall for support.
I went to the bil's house and dug a pad for him. He is going to buy a 40' container and set it behind his garage.
Then I came home and took a nap.
How are you doing

Years ago, Famous Dave's BBQ opened up a restaurant at a local marina.
We would load up on our 36' houseboat and go down there a few times a season with anywhere from 6 to 20+ people and order takeout.
They would bring it to the boat in wheelbarrows, sometimes 3 or 4 of them.
It was quite a spectacle. I'm sure they did it to draw attention to the restaurant.

Pines I'll have to try that one.
Terry that would be hilarious.

It was a busy day for me, the bil and his girlfriend asked me to go look at a piece of her property it is on the same mountain that I took the pictures from last week. She has 50 acres up there that her Dad bought in 1965 he started to build a house on an overlook and didnt finish it before he passed.
It is 32'x 50' and the concrete walk out basement is finished and had a deck built on it but that is falling in and will need to come down. The timbers supporting the floor are 12"x 12" and were cut on site.
The neighbor Jason said to be careful that a momma bear had been raising a cub in the basement so we made some noise as we got closer but didnt see any bears. The driveway is a good 1/2 mile long and was quite the hike for me to get there, we had to walk in from the gravel road as there has been no one there in years and there were trees across the drive.
I know there working up to asking me to finish the house but it ain't gonna happen, theres too much baggage there for me.
On a lighter note I finished the wreath and got it hung on the shed.
Merry Christmas everyone, it's going to be a great season. Sort of they said it's going to snow Monday and I need to mow.

It's at the very back of my yard but you can see it as you come around the curve on the road.
