Jim- sorry for your families loss.

Coop is coming along great.

Bob, the cart will be for hauling the eggs to the house, shopping on the homestead, lol

Ben, Thank you. I should start back on the generator project in a week, my bil starts his vacation when he gets off Friday and I agreed to help him with his projects next week. He has 250' of chain link fence to install, move a 45' semi trailer in behind his garage and remove the tires and landing gear to lower it and level it, build a divider wall in his garage so he can move his show car out of my shop and put it in his garage, replumb his entire house, pull 100 amp service under ground to his garage and install a sub panel (I was smart enough to put a 2" pvc under ground while we had the trencher replacing his water line to the well). His choice and he only gets me for one week.

Too bad you aren't closer. My wife has a dozen eggs in her Egg hatcher that are about due She already has 50+ chickens in her coop now and When the Iron farmer (OLD ANDY) was here he said the coop is too small for that many chicks. I have enlarged it since then and now have a way to open up her garden to let the chickens in to clean it out and fertilize it.
Anyway the reason I stopped in is to tell you that I like your hose real.

Uncle Willy, the bil wanted to use the dump trailer today, I told him to tighten the lines and refill the reservoir and test it. All worked perfect, were back in business.

We spent the day running around, went to two estate sales, I'm still looking for a couple more stainless canisters, went to two grocery stores, went to see the chicken lady, she said she should have them ready monday. We went to my nephews house he had a box of waterers and feeders he gave us, they are exactly what we needed. Stopped at the feed store and got a bag of chicken starter and some shavings to get started. There is a man down the street that puts out a sign for free shavings, I'm going to go talk to him and see if I can bring him some barrels or a container to get shavings in.

HJ, pretty nice coop setup you have. Although I have never raised chickens so what do I know?:headscrat I do know I like to eat them and their eggs.
Looking forward to seeing how things go with the chicks...

I have put hay down and they absolutely loved it, they pecked and scratched it to a pulp. I dont see or know of a problem with straw. They will get what is free first then what ever is the cheapest.

I reworked the bracket on my spray tank that was mounted to my mower.
Last year I took it off and installed a reciever hitch and have been adding reciever bars to my attachments. It was so nice to slide the tank in and spray the weeds along the fence then slide it out and set it in the shed out of the way.

We got a new griddle for the lodge today, one of the guys said it was too much trouble for me to keep bringing mine every time we cook so he hooked me up.

Dalton came down to help assemble it.

Biggen was the doner, I like his style. Not because he bought a griddle but because he takes care of business.
I'll need to go to the lodge tomorrow and season the griddle, we have a meeting Monday night, eat at 6:00 be there!!!

The Blackstones have gotten fancier than when I got mine.
Are you going to use it inside? It makes a lot of smoke, specially during the seasoning process.
That said, I do use mine in the garage without issue. I open the doors when it's nice out, but not when it's too hot or too cold.
I haven't set off the CO or smoke detectors with it yet.

We are discussing using it inside. The green stove in the pic is going away and the fridge next to it is being moved, that will give us around 10' of outside wall. If we can design a range hood that will accommodate the griddle and the white stove that satisfies the powers that be we will.

I'm going to the store today and get some supplies, then we will go season it in the back parking lot. I have joined a blackstone group on facebook and I like some of the seasoning techniques I have seen there.

Just finished up our weekly BSB (Big Sunday Breakfast) on ours.
All in the garage with the doors closed.
No alarms were sounded!

When I seasoned my 2, I washed the griddles, top, bottom and sides, with warm soapy water, rinsed well, towel dried, wiped bottom and outside with canola on a paper towel, heated on high to completely dry, then squirted lightly with canola, spread the oil with a paper towel and a spatula and let it get the oil over it's smoke temp.
Repeat 4 or 5 times.
Then I cooked bacon and onions on it, cleaned with water only, oiled it again and finally cooked some smashburgers.
I've hardly grilled burgers since getting this thing. Teri always wants smashburgers now.
I really enjoy cooking on it.

That’s a nice griddle. I bet the lodge is glad to have you as a member!
Love cooking on the cast iron, we use ours for mainly breakfast.

Terry,
I just got back from seasoning it and I did almost exactly as you did. Only difference was I used crisco vegetable grease. Dont know why!
We are having burgers and dogs and a pot of homemade chili for Monday night.
I need to get mine out and season it again. I learned the water only cleaning trick so I'll get it seasoned and hope it stays this time. I have been on the facebook group looking for something to try, maybe this.

Craig,
I'm not sure if they like me or tolerate me.
We do have a lot of fun.
I'm getting excited about being able to do some different menu options, it is 36" long, I can cook for the whole lodge in one shot.

I'm still refusing to get on Facebook.
I see too many people getting p.o.'d over stupid stuff.
I've thought about creating a generic account just to lurk...

The oil type really doesn't matter, just doesn't need to be anything expensive.
Some "experts" say it has to be rapeseed or olive oil.
Todd Tovin on the utubes works for Blackstone.
He says use whatever you've got on hand, don't buy the expensive stuff.

A good vent will help with heat, too.
That thing puts out 60,000 BTU!

Terry,
I dont have one either, I would be cursing all of the idiots. I use Pat's, it keeps me honest.......quiet. dont want people giving her my grief. I have figured that out on the oil, I used some crisco on this one.
The hood and vent will be critical to this working, that thing gets hot as heck.
We will add make up air vents also so that it dosnt **** all of the A/C out of the building.
Kev,
Thank you, Its my ocd I think. It's getting worse the older I get.
There will always be lots of pics.
Uncle Willy,
It's a relic all right, I think someone did a **** buster on the top, it dips a couple inches in the middle.

I got the top finished for the brooder table today.
20210628_170334.jpg

The latch took a little to figure out. I used a stiff piece of wire and made a long latch.
20210628_170051.jpg

Lift the door to get out of the tapered notch.20210628_170111.jpg

Then it swings up and there is a hook on top to hold it open.
20210628_170217.jpg

I will need to haul it up to the coop tomorrow and make sure it will fit the table.

The coop is coming along nicely, will be great to see the chickens in there.

My GF was trying to get me to buy a blackstone for the rental camp, I didn't know enough about them and felt like a regular grill would be safer for a rental place. I might look into one for our house though, would be kind of cool to make pancakes on.

They are great but putting one in a rental would be sketchy. They are very much like a cast iron skillet, they have to be seasoned and until you learn how to clean them right they rust fast! At home I think you would love it. I want to get the pancake dispenser.

It would be nice to add pancakes to the lodge menu.

What they look like if you dont know how to care for one.

My experience with rentals is cheaper is better. A griddle requires maintenance. Gas and charcoal grills are cheap enough to throw away and replace.

Agree on not a great idea for the rental.
They do require a bit of maintaining.
Not a big deal if you stay on top of it, but to bring one back like the one pictured would be a nasty, messy chore.
Mine's 3 years old now and I haven't had to reseason it.
I can play air hockey with eggs on it.
It's slick.

Jim, I have the pancake dispenser.
I can't recommend it.
It's cheap and small, I've had to repair it several times already.
I'd look online or at a restaurant supply house for a larger, heavier duty one.

Spent the day at the bil's place. We are re plumbing the whole house.
20210629_175751.jpg

We are moving the laundry room to an unused room off of the kitchen. It will be split in half, half laundry and half will be a closet to the new master bedroom.
Tomorrow I go under the house and run new main lines. It will be tight at only 14" of clearance.

I don’t think I’d fit in 14” 😜

Like that pex, I plumbed the bathroom in the metal build we had in KY, it’s pretty forgiving in the freezing temps.

Thanks guys for the vote of confidence. And it's hard to say no but I'm working on it.
Well I didnt get to go under the house today, I got my back out of whack and couldn't move so I sent the bil to the attic, we had to run 2 new electric circuits one for the dryer and one for the water heater. It had to be over 150 degrees up there, I stuck my head up in the attic and couldn't breath. He came out soaked.
I'm hoping that this hydro and a couple muscle relaxers will get me loosened up and I can get it done tomorrow.
