I haven't done much of anything for two weeks, I did go back under the bil's house to finish the plumbing so he could put his floor back together. Feel like I'm getting soft I need to get going.
Pat and I went to Murphy today and bought a laying box, it's in pretty good shape, it needs bottoms but I may have a set, I hope they fit.

It's a double six so room for 12 nests. Now I need to insulate and line the back wall of the coop with lumber and mount it to the wall.

The back is getting better
Jim
That's good to hear. Ann just pulled something in her's and is not moving around well today. She dropped her phone and I had to go pick it up for her. We went to the chiropractor yesterday and he gave her a big brace to wear. she thought it worked well til this morning when she couldn't move to get out of bed.

Thanks Kirk, the antique people have discovered these and they are getting expensive and harder to find. Around here they are 150 bucks 50 miles down the road they run 60 bucks.

Shorty, I ran a lot of miles on those roads, did the tail of the dragon many times, the Nantahala gorge is the most beautiful ride. Sold the Harley when the back started to go.

A few more pictures of our journey

A few minutes up the road from the house

Parksville lake it is a man made lake dammed up by the TVA

Just above the lake is where the kayaks and rafts come off of the river.

These busses haul the rafts on the roof and rafters to the top of the mountain then go to the bottom and retrieve them.

It's hard to get pics while driving, the trees are thick and play with the phone. Paddle faster I hear banjo music!

This is where they go into the river, on the near side of the pic hidden by the rock is a 20' wide sidewalk where they walk down to the lower side of the dam.

Further up the mountain is the olympic center.
The water was turned off today, they can turn the river on and off at will and redirect it where they want the water. A loud bell rings before they open a dam so you can get to high ground quick or get washed away.

It was the site of the 1996 Olympics that were held in Atlanta Ga.

This is a power station, the large pipes coming down behind the building bring water down from the flume line to run the turbines

Then we made it to the top of the mountain

Then we made a left turn.
Note the slow sign, like you could go fast.

Then we drove about five miles to the mans house to get the nest box.

I worked on Pat's nest box today, this is not the one that we went to Murphy and bought, it has been here for a couple of years.
20210718_153133.jpg
This one is going to become a cabinet in the canning kitchen.
20210718_153216.jpg
I removed the walk boards from the front. And started unbolting the entire box.
20210718_171611.jpg
I took all of the pieces out to the lawn and pressure washed everything. Then I went through each piece and straightened everything that was bent and then wire brushed all.
20210718_171643.jpg
That's as far as I got today, I had to help the bil for a short time. More tomorrow

Got back to the shop for a couple of hours today.
I started sanding and painting the box panels, I should say this nest box had to come completely apart and be totally cleaned even though it had been out of service for about 30 years it was still holding quite a bit of chicken litter (poop).
20210720_135258.jpg
The top is always the worst piece,
20210720_143540.jpg
The small angles are to hang it on the wall, the others are for the walk boards, one was broken and had parts missing. Everything is bent and will need to spend time on the anvil.
20210720_144324.jpg
Cut a piece of angle to replace the missing part.
20210720_145156.jpg
I drilled out the old rivit and put all of the necessary holes in the new piece. Then I got a new rivet to put it back together.
20210720_145313.jpg
All of the parts cleaned and straightened, ready for paint

Great pics of your rides and sites!! Just curious are your spraying with a can, brush or air sprayer? Looking great so far and hope she loves it which I’m pretty sure she will.

I went to Lowes today and not surprised they didnt have any quarts of hammered paint in stock so I bought three more rattle cans.
Had to call the Doctor this morning and get a round of steroids, I got into poison ivy about two weeks ago and it's still spreading, when its winning I get a symptom like pleurisy and my lungs ache. I didnt feel like painting today so maybe tomorrow.

Started here now it's all over me.

We stopped at an estate sale on the way home, I thought I was a hoarder this guy made me look like a total amateur, I have never seen so much stuff. He had three detached garages an attached garage and a drive out basement all so full it was hard to walk.
I bought a can of marvel mystery oil.

Jim, what works for me is a green ScotchBrite scrubby, and then gently scrub the patch with acetone and lacquer thinner. It stings, but breaks the urushiol down and stops things in their tracks. I usually give the area a daily wipedown with the thinners for a few days.

Had my first bout with Poison Ivy a couple of years ago. Hope the acetone and thinner works.
Coop cabinet is looking good. Are those aluminum rivets and did set them with a hammer and that cool anvil?

Guess we can add spray paint shortage to the list.

I‘ll probably catch the rash just from reading about it.

Jim, we‘re going to have and come up there and give you some pointers on estate sales. Three buildings and just a can of oil?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I also ****** up Marvel and other cans of thinner, etc.

Damn you’re tough!

Makes Spence though, I’ll keep that in mind next time.
