That's the only cars I will buy Shorty the newer stuff(1990s on) just dosnt appeal to me.

I dont do typical yard sales, I just dont have the time, this one isn't normal. It's like when you go to an auction and people are paying retail price because they got caught up in the moment.
I had many people telling me I was selling too cheap, my bil's gf was almost upset with me because of my prices. The idea was to lighten my **** load not make money. It is kind of worth it when you make some money also.

Good attitude!

I figure that I probably got my "stuff" for a good price (I don't spend unwisely). I would have used the item for a time already and I don't need it anymore. So I got my "money out of it" already.

If I can give something to someone who I know needs it, will use it , is appreciative of it, then I'm happy doing that.

If someone is willing to pay for something, I figure they want it? Better to sell it for a price that everyone is happy with.

If they buy from me at a good price then sell for a profit, more power to them. That is what makes the world go around. I don't have the time or inclination to be a "re-seller", if I did, I'd already have a store...

edit: Sometimes I don't give a **** who or what it was, the value is that it is just GONE!

When I have a yard sale my only goal is to move things out. I don't put prices on anything. SOmeone asks what I want, I tell them to tell me what they will pay. It takes them a bit, but generally they figure it out. One guy kept arguing that I needed to name a price, and I told him if he didn't have a price he was leaving without it. He threw out what he thought was a stupid low number and I took it. He bought a bunch of other stuff after that.

Around here you cant get these people to do that. No one will throw out the first number, they'll walk away. I stick a stupid number on it and then the haggling is on. I think they like to argue here.

I had to pick up a load of racks for Donnie at PC shop this morning, he is in Florida again. Dalton called and asked if I could hold off for the rain to quit so this morning was a bust. I got home about 3pm had lunch then went to the basement.

It took me a minute to remember the correct way to bend emt conduit.
20210922_180432.jpg
But it came out ok.
I'll have to get creative on the west wall it has three piers to get around.
20210922_180448.jpg
There was a knock out already out so I ran under and around to fill it.

I've never bent conduit before. Is it any different that bending brake lines, other than being MUCH larger? How's the back feeling?

It's a little like brake lines except you see every inch of it, with ocd that could be bad. I have seen some electricians that make it look like artwork, I can get by.

I finally got approved for Dr Ford, he is a pain management specialist. We are working on some stuff, I'm going to try again to loose some weight, but with my love of food that will be the challenge. Short answer is I'm still in pain but I'm not letting it stop me.

It was concrete breaking day today.
The basement and the rooms above it were an addition put on the house in the 1960s the rest of the original house is on a crawlspace.
These two openings that connect the basement to the crawlspace were always here but were never finished.
20210923_104538.jpg

20210923_151859.jpg
I chiseled out the broken block and prepped the hole to add new block to square up the opening and make it smaller.
20210923_151908.jpg
This one will get closed up completely.

20210818_152951.jpg
This is the last original window in the house.
20210923_153124.jpg
It's the middle window in the basement and much like a middle child it has been a challenge to deal with, every time I made plans to work on it something always got in the way.
20210923_140513.jpg
For some unknown reason the po added this mess to the bottom of all three windows.
20210923_140502.jpg
I have already cut the other two out and rough installed them.
20210923_143232.jpg
The easiest way I've found was to drill the perimeter and split it down the middle and drive a chisel in one of the holes and they pop right out.
20210923_140445.jpg
It was a lot of drilling but it was at sitting in a folding chair height.

I have this burst of energy all of a sudden, must be the cooler weather

I couldn't wait, I had to set it tonight.
20210923_162431.jpg
I have to haul racks back to Ooltewah in the morning so I'll stop at Jackie Evan's and see if they have a tote of sand and I'll get busy grouting them in.20210923_162416.jpg

I have never set windows in concrete block... looks like fun. Looks great.

The ducts in my basement are hung below the ceiling, that is filled with insulation. I wish they could have been tucked up between the beams. My basement is not really usable as anything but storage.

Chris, your too funny, that's exactly how the po had installed them.
20210923_150652.jpg
This is the window I took out, no tools required. This area never made contact.
Kay, I went to general shale to buy mortar and the manager didnt want to help me, he said no one installs windows like that. I just got the S type mortar and came home.
Pines, I've had basements like that, I went to great lengths to keep this one open, the cieling will be 6" tongue and grove flooring so nothing below the floor joists, I have to move the water heater about 4' so I can tuck the water pipes up in the cieling.

Wow, looks like a lot of work changing out the windows in a block wall. Great work and the new windows look good. I may have some questions about the po’s skill level.:scared::headscrat

Jay, the house was my neighbors grandfathers house and was well kept, when he passed the pos that bought it didnt take care of anything and eventually lost it, I bought it from a bank. It had great bones but the rest was in bad shape, just my kind of house. Every house I have purchased got a makeover so why not buy a fixer upper to begin with.

I said that half in jest as it seemed that’s what the po did , but you just confirmed it. I have seen this exact looking”install/repair” before on my last house when I was replacing the **** windows with hurricane rated new ones, it’s hard to believe people really think this is “good”. :cautious:

Making progress for sure, nicely done sor!

Comment on the window install from the window manufacturer(but not the manufacturer of those) point of view, grouting in vinyl windows is not a generally recommended practice. Biggest challenge is that the two materials being joined(vinyl and block wall) have radically different rates of thermal expansion/contraction and grouting them in leaves no room for them to move independently. With a properly shaped/installed sealant line with foam backer rod behind it(enables the necessary hourglass shape for maximum elasticity of the cured joint), we get a joint that prevents water from getting in and provides a controlled location for expansion and contraction to happen.

Yes caulk and backer rod is also cheaper, faster, easier etc...but all those are secondary to creating a durable and reliable seal between the the wall and window

Logan, that's great information. I had a talk with the man I bought the windows from and told him what my situation was and he recommended this window and some guid lines for installing them. I'm hoping that it works as planned, the windows are floating now and will need to be caulked when I'm done with the mortar. Then the inside finish will be wood. I hope it works out.

I had a rocker failure last week, one of our rocking chairs broke, I thought it was going to be a simple fix..... silly me.
20210925_171750.jpg
The arm fell off of the closer one.
20210925_110650.jpg
I thought it was going to be a glue job but this thing is all screws and they are braking.
20210925_110709.jpg
Cheap hardware.
20210925_110908.jpg
I drilled all around the broken screw.
20210925_111145.jpg
Then I connected the dots.
20210925_111211.jpg
I used my needle nose pliars to extract the broken screw.
20210925_111245.jpg
There were three that were broken.
20210925_111332.jpg
I drilled all of them out to 1/2"

Then I installed 1/2" furniture dowels with gorilla glue.
20210925_114344.jpg
I used the screws that were in the rockers to repair the arm and back. So I got four lag bolts to put in the rockers.
20210925_114402.jpg
I had to enlarge the hole with a fostner bit.
20210925_114511.jpg
The bigger hole. I put gorilla glue in all of the holes that I took apart to help keep it together.
20210925_171750.jpg
Now Pat and I can sit on the porch and drink our coffee in the morning. And yes we do sit there every morning and drink our coffee.

Thanks Kirk, I couldn't believe there is no glue in those chairs, well there wasnt until I got done.

I spent the afternoon playing in the chicken coop. My sil has around 200 game ***** and his health isn't real good so he wants/needs to downsize his heard so he is bringing me some minis this weekend so I need to get things ready.
20210926_173519.jpgthe building is ready but the interior needs to be finished.
20210926_185640.jpg
I'm putting foam insulation up then installing the pallet boards inside.
20210926_185648.jpg
The dark ones are wet, I think they will lighten up a bit when they dry, if not that's ok also putting the walls in this way will keep it cooler on the birds and will allow me to mount equipment anywhere on the wall as needed. I need to run a light wire before I seal everything up, when the days get short the chickens quit laying eggs, a light on a timer will keep them laying eggs longer into winter.
Tomorrow I need to do some mortar work in the basement.

Nice rocker repair. I hate when they use cheap hardware. Only difference I would have done... is use Titebond Wood Glue instead of that APE glue. Oh... and I would have used a hardwood dowel. I have walnut and oak dowels. My OCD is strong.

The chicken Condo... looks fabulous too.

I opted to not use tightbond because the parts were painted with high gloss something and I dont think it was regular paint. I used a rasp on what I could but it still had a lot of paint on it. The gorilla glue will bond to anything. Those are hardwood dowels.
Thanks the chicken condo makes me smile too. I want to build another one next summer.

Ahhhh yea... gloss finishes don't work with "wood glue". Ape is better. (Remember I am a label freak... Ape has less letters than Gorilla)

Good on the dowels... I have gotten "cheap" dowels along the way that were from inferior fast growing wood. I prefer getting actual dowel rod and cutting mine to a custom length.

I call your chicken thing a condo instead of a coop because it's big enough to walk into and stand in. Means you can have a serious number of chicken families in there. Around here we have coops for about 6 - 8 chickens.

I'm right with you on all points. And it's funny you call it a condo, that's what we call it also.
My dowels are around 40 years old I bought an upholstery shop about 35ish years ago and I got cases of everything still in stock. I'll never run out of them in my lifetime.
I need some advice on a label maker for idiots, my bil is opening his trophy shop back up and he is looking for one.
#1 something he can operate(he still prefers a flip phone)
#2 Something that will print 3 lines(what is the widest tape available)
I really need him to be able to operate it, I dont need to take on another job.
What do you recomend.

Jim, I've had good luck with Brother P-touch label makers and currently have three. One of the older ones (factory refurbished PT-2030 model) does 3 lines but the largest tape is 0.70" (18mm). Amazon has a fancier model on sale at the moment ($99.98) and it will make 7 line labels on 1" (24mm) tape and can be connected to a PC or Mac.

Brady BMP21... there are others... but this is kinda perfect. You need to get the lithium battery... and the charger too.

ONE thing... you can ONLY charge the battery by taking it OUT of the printer. (Annoying)

Wide variety of label stock. I go thru 3/4" and 3/8"

You MUST print in BOLD to get a readable label. Go and try without bold... you will see.

Bob and Pines, I'll look at those and see what they offer. My bil dose not touch computers or technology of any kind. He is way old school in everything he dose. Thanks.

Shorty, I've been too busy, we are working on the basement, I poured concrete window sills today, rebuilt that other chicken nest box that is in front of my shop, it needed 12 bottoms cut and broke and the whole right end had to be drilled and riveted.
I'm still loading the white trailer for the yard sale that starts Thursday.
Had to go check out the tropheys we are building for the car show.

Donnie is plasing them for the club.
Got to go for now, its meeting night at the lodge.
I'm tired!!!

Funny what us old farts are afraid of. My Old Man it's cellphones, but he's fine with computers.
In the 1980's... I worked for IBM and showed my father the brand new IBM PC with a 30Meg hard drive (largest by far available at the time)... I put it in my living room next to the couch. He thought it was insane. He assured me computers will never "take off" for popular use. In the 80's I told him everyone will have a PC in their house in the next decade or so...

He didn't approve of me working for IBM... he didn't consider their business something that would last much longer. After 15 years there and another tech company... he reevaluated his thoughts and approved.

I got to work on the chicken condo today, I used all of the pallet lumber that I had cleaned and it got me about half way finished, I stopped and checked with LaserJay yesterday, he will have about 20 pallets ready this week.
20210929_153713.jpg
Pat helped me get the nest box on the wall.
20210929_153719.jpg
We put about 2" of sand down, I need more pallet lumber for this end.

Thanks S&A I know I'm going overboard on the chicken condo but I'm having fun with it, I bought the metal but the rest is all free pallet lumber.
who knows I may have to live in it someday.

That red truck was my Mothers truck and there is a whole long story that goes with it. Short story is it has 88,000 original miles on it, it's a 97, it has some kind of an LS1 option on it and factory duals, it ain't going nowhere.
A couple of the guys here on GJ have stopped buy to get a pic in it to yank Pines, and Uncle Willie's chain.
