I got busy early today, I didnt have as productive a day as yesterday (the roids let me down) but it was a good day.

I got the framing done for the ptak, most of the insulation is in. I finished the outlets except for the outside outlet, it was raining.

The bil showed up and we hung the upper drywall.

It's supposed to be raining in the morning so the turkey shoot has been called off so we will hang drywall in the morning, I'm hoping to start taping tomorrow.

I got a bit more done today,
20221113_123029.jpg
I pulled the siding off this morning and got the hole cut through the wall.

20221113_154948.jpg
There is a steel sleeve that gets installed in the hole with a little tilt out to allow the water to drip outside but I forgot to get a pic of it, I was being distracted!!! Then the unit slides in, I removed the cord and hard wired it.

Got the drywall installed.
20221113_172437.jpg
I initially had it set to 72 but it got too hot too fast so I set it back to 68 and it was nice.
Pat and I put up more drywall and pieced in the ends. We have about 20' of 30" high wall to insulate but we will have to move the four remaining sheets of drywall so that's a job for tomorrow.

Looks just like those hotel units.

It is just like them, it's a ptak, basically a mini package unit that sits in the wall, it was 1,400 dollars, I was going to install a Mitsubishi mini split but they are close to 3,000 dollars. I have a friend that works for trane and he educated me on these just before I bought the other one. This is much easier to install and really it's a cleaner install.

Sore today, I had to brake concrete and bricks out, my rock hammer went up in smoke earlier this year so it was a hammer and chisel!
20221114_145532.jpg
The ledge below the siding was sticking out in places and had to be chiseled back.
20221114_145524.jpg
The bricks had to come back three rows on the right side, they will need to come back four rows on the left.
20221114_201003.jpg
I got all of the insulation finished also.

Porch is looking good Jim! We came through your way early Sunday morning on the way home. Stopped in Sweetwater and had breakfast at Huddle House. Beautiful area to live in.

You get more accomplished while recovering from pneumonia than most of us do when healthy.

Nice work.

I was also going to mention your new heater/AC unit looks like ones in some of the hotels I’ve stayed at. Bee careful at thanksgiving of those relatives bringing suitcases cause they might not leave. Or I guess you could put them to work.

Keep up the great progress

That's a great idea Drives, I'll have a list ready for any stragglers, that will launch them out of here quick.
I finished the z pak yesterday, I still have the antibiotics to finish, 30 day supply! I'm getting better, still wheezing and rattling a bit, thanks Buddy.

I had two Doc appts today. First was ok, second one confirmed my suspicions, I'll be going back in in January to have my knees reworked. Bummer!
I got all the drywall but one corner done today.
20221116_192005.jpg
I did also get the steps cut back and cleaned everything up.
So this corner will be my concentration tomorrow, there is an outside outlet that needs to be cut in and the siding put back on. Then I need to put some backers in the wall to attach the new stoop to.
20221116_191946.jpg
The wall is 8'4" tall so I put my filler strip in the middle, I dont bend well enough to put it at the bottom.

You cant tell but this wall is dry walled and ready for mud.
Tomorrow I also have to go get some lumber,

Smart move, putting the gap there. With your skills, no one will ever know, and your body is probably very grateful you did it that way.
If your base molding is tall, the filler strip could have been put at the bottom and fully covered by the base without finishing.

Only if you can trust the designer and trimmer to spec and install the correct base moulding. I've always done my fillers in the middle. No one wants to be kneeling down, effing with lumpy *** drywall details. Two swipes at waist height with the broad knife and it's buried forever.

Larry the baseboards will be 4 inches tall to match the rest of the house , also there will be about 11' of cabinets and counter top on that wall,
A couple of swipes with the big knife and it will be nice, I really have trouble bending so my wife put the bottom row of screws in, she is great!
Bugnut, The Doc seems to think that once he gets the scar tissue out that a lot of the inflammation will go away and I should be able to get around much better, he was upset that I waited so long to come back and see him. We'll see!

20221117_181610.jpg
I had about a ¼ of a bag of 20 minute powder so I started on the big joint, wish that I had just tossed it in the trash and started with regular mud.
20221117_181602.jpg
I got all of the joints taped and first shot on all of the screws.
20221117_181621.jpg
I even got THE corner caught up to the rest of the room.
I'm hoping to get the second coat on tomorrow then go out and put the siding back on and finish the final two outside outlets, then I can fire up all of the electric!
We moved the buffet to the basement and the Hoosier cabinet from the kitchen to the shop, it will be the next piece to get overhauled, I think I'm going to make my timeline.

Great progress that is for certain. I know you’re knees and maybe back ache a lot and even though I’m also maybe due for knee surgery or replacement I’ve opted to not have surgery. I lost some weight this last summer (probably the same 15 pounds I lost last summer) and got better shoes and I rarely even had to take Advil for knee pain.

I hope you have a fun Thanksgiving and if anybody can make a sad group smile I know it’s you. AND maybe you can still get them to help you finish some projects while they are there eating all your great food.

Kirk back in the 20s and 30s it was basically a kitchen in a box, there were flour and sugar sifters and spice holders and such built in. When I get this one finished it's going to the canning kitchen.

Thanks Strouty, I'm knocking the house projects out, I need some shop time.

Tony that's a big offer, do you know how much I love bbq and beer?
I built those wheelbarrows for Pat about 15 years ago for a haloween set up she wanted to do, she has kept them in the yard ever since.

Chris I put flat spots on the tires, just to make sure, lol.

Arne yes the white vanity is in with the blue claw foot tub, that is a bathroom I built for my bil.

Drives I hope that weight loss will keep you off the table, it is the worst thing I have ever been through, I had no choice, the cartledge was completely gone and I was bone on bone. Getting old ain't for sissies!
I have everyone here in line at the moment, and having Thanksgiving here will ensure that harmony will prevail, they know better than to poke the bear!
The most happy Thanksgiving to you my friend.
My coffee pot is empty so that means it's time to get busy, thank you everyone for hanging out with me for a bit.
