Welder, your right the ceilings are popcorn, Donnie is going to dry scrape the cieling and paint them with a long nap roller, this will make it look close to a knock down texture, then he will add a small crown molding.
We drywalled the bedroom today.

The bil came over to help, I'm glad he did it saved my back.

We are all tired so we knocked off for the rest of today, I'll tape and first coat it tomorrow.

This is an old pic, I have the second coat on this room, I'll sand it tomorrow after I tape the bedroom.
We have to build a small knee wall in the bathroom. That will be it for drywall.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject but you can just leave those eggs out in the open until you have enough of them and then put them in the incubator? Don’t they have to be kept warm after they were laid until they hatch? I know nothing about chickens except that I am a thigh man.

Jayman, I'm not sure the exact length of time they can be kept but I have kept them for two weeks before, they stay in a state of suspension, meaning until they go in the incubator they dont age and they will all hatch together in 21 days. I'm keeping these in a cabinet in the coop for convenience, because it's still cool outside. If it gets hot they need to go in the fridge. You also have to rotate them twice a day while they are being stored or the yolks will stick to the inside of the shell. Were supposed to get a hard freeze tonight so I will bring the eggs in to the back porch so they dont get to cold.
Please dont hesitate to ask questions, I dont know all of the answers but I know people!

The family room is about done except for the doorways, too much traffic!
20230217_121252.jpg
20230217_121241.jpg
The bedroom is about 90%
20230217_121157.jpg
The kitchen and living room are 50%
And there was a new knee wall built in the bathroom that hasn't been drywalled yet.
I'm hoping to be done by Wednesday.

I don’t envy all that drywall taping you have to do. Thanks for explaining the egg situation, that’s amazing they can keep for that long and still produce chicks all at the same time too.

Kirk, the hill behind the house was dumping water into the crawlspace, the old man never said his floors were buckling in the back rooms, when family visited they never went in the back until he got sick last year. When Donnie found out what was happening we put a curtain drain around the house and a 4" tile and sock, it dried up quick but the damage was done.

Jay, I got 35 eggs in the incubator today,

hopefully in 21 days we will have some chicks. In five days we can candle the eggs and see if there is anything happening inside, after 10 days I will remove any that dont show signs of life.
Note, a hen will lay eggs in a nest, she will turn them and care for them until there are enough eggs to satisfy her instincts, then she will quit laying eggs and set the nest until the chicks hatch.

It never filled with water but there are trails where the water ran through there regularly, for years. We cut a curtain drain around 40" deep around the back of the house, this got it below the footer a couple of inches, as it went to the front of the house the land falls off so it surfaced about 10' passed the front edge of the house.

Jim,
Seeing the chickens and eggs reminds me of visiting my former neighbors who bought a small farm. My mom and dad thought they were nuts but they were like my second parents.
We stayed with them and my dad asked if they had rosters. They said yes but the rosters don't crow until 9AM when they get up. They said they trained all of the farm animals to live on their schedule.

You know that Ann has about 50 chicken out back. 2 months ago they just stopped laying eggs.We thought that it was because they are all pretty much the same age and they are pretty old that nature was the cause. It has been really cold in the early mornings so I put 2 heat lamps out in the coop. About a week later they all started laying again the same day. Now we are hard pressed to give the eggs away.
I keep fighting Ann because she wants to put about 30 eggs in the incubator so she can have those cute chicks running around. We already have way too many chickens in the coop. There are also 4 full grown turkeys in there.

Lenny, it's not hard to train them, bribery will get you everywhere with them.
Don, if I had the room I would have 50 or more! It's funny, Pat dosnt care for them here as you dont there, Pat did say she would like to have some Buff Bantam Coachens, they weigh about 1½ to 2 lbs and have feathers on there legs so I'm trying to buy an acre behind us to expand (The Farm) lol. My SIL has about 250 chickens on his place.

It's only been three days so I didnt expect to see anything yet. You can see the yolk floating on top in this pic.

This one shows the porosity of the shell, if they are viable eggs they will develop a small air bubble inside also. I have heard chicks peep inside the shell a day or two before hatching.
I am still collecting eggs just in case these are duds I'll have another batch to try.

It is a **** ton of mud work. I screed tight and I'm almost through my third bucket of mud. I'm on my fifth piece of sandpaper but two of them got into wet mud so really I'm on my third sheet.
When it's done he rented it to a bunch of Yankees from Michigan!
Glad your back, hope your feeling better.

I took the day off today, Pat and I went antiquing.
We decided today to list her Jeep for sale.
20190805_150140.jpg
It's been an on again off again kind of thing but It got listed today. She would like to buy another Tahoe, she had a 95 until the trailer tongue broke one night and we rolled it.

So she has been watching marketplace and found this one.
20230223_222225.jpg

Kirk, I put a lot of time into the Jeep making sure everything was perfect for Pat, brakes, shocks, tune up, typical wear parts stuff like that. I didnt want her broke down.
I did take the axles out and clean and paint stuff but other than the hours I dont have an attachment to it so I'm good. The 95 Tahoe that we rolled I did have an attachment to it so I'm kind of hoping for a quick sale on the Jeep so I can get back into a Tahoe.

I have still been collecting eggs from my chickens just in case the incubator batch fails. I cracked a few to see if they were fertile.
20230224_175427.jpg
Thought some of you might find this interesting. To check for a fertil egg you have to crack one and find the bullseye, this lighter circle with the dot in the middle means its fertile.
I'm sorting the eggs by a method I just learned about, apparently pointed eggs are roosters and rounded eggs are hens, so I'm going to try it and see what happens.
