I think everyone should either post their carts/wish lists or there should be a new "post HJE Day" event where we all buy the things we want/need AFTER seeing all the things others want/need.
I love looking at the things people order and seeing all the stuff I did not know I needed until then!
I like this idea, too.
I always see lots of stuff I "needed" after people post their hauls...

Do you prefer using round head ratchets because of how they work or honestly is it just nostalgia?
It’s the “lineman” model. It has a raised switch tab that’s supposed to be easier to use with gloves on.

I don’t mind round heads in 1/2DR since I’m usually using them in a more industrial application, but for 3/8DR I do definitely prefer a pear head.

Ya just can’t wait for the 4th of July. They are much too far apart. How they find the stashes of NOS treasures is beyond me. This is my first and only metric tape. I will claim I bought it in the 60’s if challenged on when I embraced the metric system! Box art is available year round.

Couldn't wait for July and bought a big package of stuff that just arrived a couple of days ago. I did not get box art this time despite requesting it, but otherwise it was the best packaged shipment I've ever received, from any company, ever.
I cannot understate it. Somehow HJE managed to pad my order of chunks of tool steel more gingerly and pack them more tightly than any fragile object I've ever received. It was really a marvel.

I'm just posting this is a "thank you" to HJE for being on the Shop platform. I find the platform so low-friction that I tend to do more shopping there than other places online. The mobile app and such are so good and slick. I can tap on my HJE store in the Shop app and get my fix with utmost convenience.

Just curious how can I view my saved favorites?

Edit: never mind found the tiny icon on the bottom left corner of screen but it appears the stuff I had in my cart has disappeared again!

HJE Day has been flickering in my brain swamp for the past month or so, but not until bedtime last night did I go looking for it. You guys are away ahead of me! :D

As member in good standing of the Knipex Pusherman Club, if you still don't have the Knipex 10" Cobras, HJE has a fair price on them:

They're the Knipex gateway drug! Shipping cost always changes the game with HJE, but on HJE Day, you're probably buying more than one thing, so that spreads out the sting.

These little scissors, made in Japan, are much better than the $12.60 price might make you suspect! Not safe for der kiddiewinkies -- very sharp edges and very pointy tips. Blades aligned well, return spring riveted inside the base of the U. (Hidden by rubbery cover in these pics.) I'd say they're perfect for loose threads, frayed edges, precise little jobs.

(sniff) Last of the Malco Vise Grips*:

_______
* Not actually Petersen or Irwin Vise Grips (TM) but made in USA and sturdy. Shiny, too.

I have a cart ready to go. I have Irwin vise grips. What’s the difference between them and Malkos?

Imagine an American-made Petersen Vise Grip, recently made in America at the same building in DeWitt Nebraska. They sure feel heavier, but I haven't put them on a scale. They are shinier.

It was an experiment that failed and for now, we feast on the surplus bones. Or you can wait for Snap On to bring it back (they bought this line from Malco) and, IIRC, literally charge $100 for a pair.

I also see some at Amazon. 10" curved jaw at $35. The price/quality ratio right now is outstanding. Most consumers want... Chinese Irwin.

Thanks! After my post (should have done research first), I looked up and went down a mini rat hole of Malco Eagle Grip YouTube videos. I get it now.

I rarely use my 10” Irwin vise grips, I now have a set of 8” Knipex Cobra and Twin Grip pliers.. yet.. these Malkos now are added to my cart. Not sure if it’ll make the final cut. I’ll probably watch another hour worth of YouTube videos before I decide. 🥴Thanks.

^ Just called Epstein. All they have left is that 7-inch curved jaw model. WELL worth the $30 ticket.
Are you sure it’s the curved jaw they have not the straight jaw? I searched Malco eagle grip on their site and see they have qty 135 of the straight jaw and didn’t see any other results. Maybe the curved jaw is only available if you call them?IMG_1214.png

OOPS.
sorry.. you are correct. 7 inch straight jaw ONLY from Epstein.
I got my wires crossed again.

They started at about $50 or $60 bucks a pair over a year ago. Then they got another batch and dropped the price to about $30 bucks.

I wasn't aware there were any NOS units available on Amazon. $35 bucks for those 10-inchers is a fair price, considering they're about ten times the quality of the Irwin models.

How much of a discount is typically offered on HJE Garage Journal sales days?

None on the Malco’s. In years past, there might be a few items with especially large discounts and 10% on closeouts. It’s not a sale, it’s an appreciation day from GJ to HJE for being the hardware store we would all like to have nearby. They reciprocate the appreciation back to their customers. Some manufacturers also show their appreciation. HJE has very fair pricing year round and supplies items you won’t find anywhere else. All with a terrific sense of humor and tradition.

Yup, this. If you sign up on advance, your email may trigger a hidden sale for GJ members.

But it's not about the sales, it's the appreciation day

If you already participated you don't need to do anything except load up your wishlist (I'd use wishlist as opposed to shopping cart).
If this is your first time, create an account on our website and then DM me your email address so i can get you signed up.
What if the wishlist isn't available on all of the items? I noticed this one doesn't have the option to add it for example: https://www.harryepstein.com/products/27mm-open-end-crowfoot-wrench-1-2-dr

EDIT: Nevermind, I refreshed the page and then it showed up instead

So over 2 1/2 years to clear out inventory from a single year of production, at clearance prices. Wow! Amazon has some 10 inch left.
Unless I’m mistaken, the Eagle grips were in production for roughly 4 years, 2018-2022. As another member mentioned, they were significantly more expensive when they were first put into production.

Edit: I was mistaken, it was only a year

^ They were about $60 bucks a pair when they first came out. Only after a couple years went by and sales slowed way down did the price drop down to $30 or $35 bucks.

I'd posit that Amazon is blowing them out at $35 because that market got kind of saturated. How many pairs do you need?

Guys that are going to scorch them on welding jobs don't buy Malcos - they pick up old Dewitt Vise-Grips at garage sales for a couple bucks a pair. There are still bazillions of old Dewitt-made units in the second-hand market.

Years of planning and about a year of production. Spectacular collapse. And snap on still sells them for $100 when you can by them from HJE for $30. HJE even offered a lot of varieties Malco never brought to market. Glad they saved good tools from the landfill once again. There is a lot of discussion about the marketing of this product, but the big box stores are pretty good at knowing their customers. No way they were going to tie up shelf space on $45 vise grips. This video seems well researched.

Yeah, you’re right. I looked up when they opened and saw 2018 but it doesn’t look like any actually hit the market until 2021 so it’s unlikely they were producing more than prototypes during that time period. It really is sad that they failed. I bought a couple from HJE this year and they really are very nice pliers. Probably the nicest locking pliers you can buy.

I couldn’t wait. I’ve had parts in my HJE cart for two months. I recently added the Malco 7” straight jaw Eagle Grips and have been watching inventory dwindle from 135 to 101 in the past week. These are the last model of Malkos shown on the HJE site. I wonder if anymore is coming from the manufacturer’s warehouse?

I don’t know if I’ll want anything more by the time July 4th rolls around. But.. I do WATCH this thread so.. who knows.
