Has anyone sold a US General 41" box?

Not trying to start a flame fest I'm just curious if anyone has upgraded from one of the 41" boxes that so many have bought. What did you sell it for, was it easy to sell, or was it so cheap that you kept it as a spare?

I've actually seen a couple on Craigs List listed for around what you can get a new one one sale for. My guess is someone bought them for full price without the coupon and then decided to sell them...

When I closed my shop I had two of the bottom roll cabs I kept in differant spots in the shop and pretty much used them as roll cabs because spent way too much time traveling in my shop just to grab a screwdriver or tools for a brake job. I paid 339 each for the boxes and sold them for both for 500 to my alignment guy. I don't particully like the wrinke red paint but the fact these boxes weighed in at 398 lbs each (Craftman same size about 175) and got the drawers slammed kick and stuff thrown in them without a bearing slide failure proves what a tough box it is. The fact you can catch them on sale for 339 dollars at times makes you look the other way are far as the paint goes. I bought a new set for my home garage so I can keep my Maczimizer and all my Snap-on and Mac stuff out of my sons, grandsons and neighbors hands. I bought these and have them filled with Craftsman, old stuff like Proto, Industo some pittsburg, kobalt and things like that. I bought the bottom roll cab, top box and full length side cab. I'm going to add another full length side cab soon. Here are some phots of my boxes. Excuse the mess, I'm a slob

I'm just wondering because I've never seen one on my CL, but then again my CL is usually pretty slim pickens. When I upgrade I'll probably keep my box for homeowner tool storage.

I've seen a few advertised on CL in either DC or VA Beach. I can't remember what it was listed for, but it was definitely more than what one could buy it for with a 20% coupon.

If you purchased it less than a year ago "and still have your receipts" you can return it for a full refund.

I was in my HF a week or so ago, and saw the new 52 "or 56; can't remember" inch. I said I'd buy if I could trade in my box in. LOL. They told me to just complain that I'm unsatisfied with the box, and I would get a full refund.

If they ever get a top chest and sides available I will take them up on their offer.

There was one up in Wisconsin for $200 or $250, it was up for over a month. I've seen an occasional one locally for $100 ~ $150, I assume they sell. There has been a Menards MasterForce one that's been up quite awhile with no takers but he has it priced quite high. I think the worst resellers are those big stainless steel boxes, I see them cheap as hell and they're still up after a week (around here a nice box at a good price goes in hours). Best seller for me, the older Craftsman boxes, they go like hot cakes.

Once upon a time they had a 54 inch version (top and bottom) built just like the 41 but was 20 inches deep instead of 18. They were tough to get in and the only set I ever saw was a set one of my techs bought.
I wouldn't return the ones you have unless you had a legit complaint as to the quality of the box. That kind of stuff has a way of coming back to bite you even if the manager goes along with it. I'm not crazy about the textured paint but that somethig I could see going in. Buy the bigger one and keep the other at home. I always made sure I kept tools at home after the shop I was working at back in the 80's burned to the ground. You know what they call a technician with no tools?

The ones you see in my first photo came from Costco. I bought them for 699 dollars. They look good but won't hold up to the kind of punishment i put a tool box through. I kept them in the small machine shop portion of my shop where I did engine building and head porting. They didn't see much abuse back there. Thats because I worked in there after hours on my own stuff and the customers didn't have me pulling my hair out. They are basicly peices of ****. I was going to sell them once but the best offer I got was 300 dollars. I'll just hang on to them and just put light stuff in them. The drawer slides are junk is the biggest thing. I knew that going in so I have treated them gently.

Saw a HF largebox in pawn shop, on layway, just roller cab, missing wheels, price $250.

They seem to be holding their value percentage wise as good or better than the expensive boxes.

Funny that you posted this topic. I am planning on selling or trading mine in on something else and I was thinking about this exact topic today. Not that I don't like the box, the shop space is getting smaller and I need something i can manuever around easier. ( I have the top and bottom) I have been offered $500 on trade-in, so I'm at least getting my money back.

There's one for sale locally now, just listed and in my own town (I better rush over there), $900 for top and bottom full of tools ( I'm going to send an email offering a hundred, if he takes it, I'll buy, smash it, and post pics).

If the tools are Craftsman thats a decenr deal. The box IMHO is better than the Craftsman of the same size. I bet 750 would take it home

I'm not going to pay $750 to smash a box, a hundred would be worth the entertainment value, might even go $150, he can keep the tools.

I'll take a used CMan Pro over that HF box any day.

I've been thinking about getting one of those new 56" boxes for a junk box though if they ever go on sale.

I grabbed a second bottom for $150 off of CL about a month ago. It wasn't in mint condition but i don't care about a few scratches. I listed my old top box the next weekend to recover the money and had it sold for the same amount with in about an hour. The guy i got the roller cab from said he had several calls for it, but of course everyone says that.

As far as mickey crushing one, i'm all for it, at least then i could see that he actually uses a tool or two instead of just collecting them and bitching about HF all the time.

Come on man, you know he just hangs out in his mom's basement on the computer bitching about HF, while his USA made stuff is hung on the wall for all his D&D playmates to drool over:bounce:

But no seriously, crushing one, that would be cool to watch :rocker:
