I have watched this forum for a while. I got especially interested when the plane crazy guy posted the airplane shop.
I am going to build a house of some sort on a few acers in a year from now give or take.
I am torn between my first idea of making an old barn into a very nice rustic house on the inside but retain the unique oldness of a barn from the outside. If you drove by if it was seen from the road, hopefully not, then you would never know and think it was a very old barn.
or now taking an airplane and making an under ground house out of it. It would at the start be cost to dig into a hill but then you have virtually no need for heat or cooling. It also would serve as a tornado shelter you would be totally safe in this in storms.
Has anyone dont a barn before like this on here. Yes I know, I have heard that it has been done before but I mean on this forum. Would it cost more to build it new to look old or more to restore an old barn? what would be the pros and cons of this project.
Then again the airplane would be cool because id have the **** pit sticking out the other side of the hill as a sorta balcony and with the windows make that my breakfast nook maybe? or kitchen? It would be different. would be cool to have it to where you have a diving board off of it and into a salt swiming pool.
I may use a smaller plane for a storm shelter and the barn for my house and garage. I may go with that who knows. but I am trying to estimate the difference in cost as to restore or build new? oh and I want a Bonanza fire place in it for those of us who are old enough to remember the western Bonanza. The hay loft will be another bed room over looking down stairs and maybe a fire pole to slide down as well as stairs.
NOPE will not be in any city. I Totally HATE city living. Rather have peace and quiet in the country. dont have time for the drama of the city life
