Hello everyone...1st time poster...

I live in the metro Louisville, Ky area, (Go Cats!), and just received a quote from DC metals http://dcmetal.com/index.html and am very interested. Anyone else used this company before? Thanks in advance...

Welcome, my only advice is to get several qoutes and compare apples to apples and shop for the best value. You will find a big difference in bids. I had bids on my 30 x 60 that ranged up to a difference of $7K and the specs were nearly identical.

DC is very close to my hometown. They have built quite a reputation in the last few years for some of the jobs they have done. But definately get more quotes. They do good work but are often high.

Thats where i buy my metal, I build my own. I will say this, if your in a hurry their the guys to get. In 3 days or less they'll be gone and you'll be moving your stuff in! I'd say call 'em up and turn 'em loose....good luck oh and by the way in a few years if you want to add-on their colors will still match.

All my metal came from DC metal we always bought metal from them at the lumber yard I worked at. If you want to get a bid from some one else. Check out Graber post buildings they are in the same area. You will be amazed at how fast ether one will put up your building. The amish know how to do barns. You will be happy with ether of them. I am going fri or sat to grabers to pick up metal for my ceiling in my shop.

If you had to choose one or the other, who would it be?

Do you think it is better to site prep before or after the building is built? I have a heavy clay soil, and the back end is 2' - 2.5' lower...Also, is it expensive? I'm pretty new to all of this. Your replies are appreciated...

It would be much easier and probably cheaper to do the site prep work before the building.

JoeMopar, I like the 64 Dodge avatar. I assume it's yours. I had a 64 440 wagon in black with teal interior lowered with 17" Torque Thrust wheels. I sold it a few yrs ago. Do you have any more pics?
Not trying to hijack the thread just curious.

Also, I was advised 36 pounds per sq ft on the upstairs attic. Is this a low number?

Does anyone know about weight loads? Just wondering if 36 lbs per sq ft. is an issue in the above described building It's for a 12x32x7 attic room. (Done in attic truss using 7/12 pitch) Thanks

I have 2 friends that had Gosman Inc. put up pole barns for them and they did a great job on both of them, here in Lagrange. They are located in Madison In.

Do NOT use Gosman from Madison Indiana. Cancelled numerous times, showed up finally, put the building in the wrong spot, left nails, mud, metal, ruts all over the yard and field. No hardware for the doors and installed opening in the wrong directions. Complete cluster**** of a job.

I purchased some rural property in SW Indiana in 1990 and had DC Metal build a 24' x 28' shelter house about a year later. I also had them build a 36' X 48' x 10' pole barn about five years ago. I am very happy with both buildings.

My only caution is that the southern Indiana Amish/Mennonite builders do a great deal of business in low income rural areas where there are no building codes, permit requirements, or inspections. Many of their customers are wanting the cheapest possible buildings. You need to make sure that the bid specifications include all the features that you want, and you need to have a clear understanding of which party will be responsible for obtaining necessary permits and inspections and how an site work will be handled.
