I know that seller - good guy who typically lists stuff at a pretty high price on eBay. I bought my Assistent from him.

9250, what do you have with lower case "a" stamping? Those typically are worth a lot to the old VW guys.

Interesting about the head design; I wonder if it was made under license or just a coincidence that it looks like a Herbrand? Which came first; the chicken or the egg?

Bart, I just now saw your post.

I have the same ratchet, a 916. I posted pics of it in another thread, not sure if you saw it:

Yep, I saw your other post. I've seen those before, not sure what the Hazet/Herbrand connection is. Nice, fairly long 1/2" ratchet, though.

All these years later I am a member of the Hazet 916 club. I actually found it 2 years ago at the local flea. Thought I had posted it back then. But if I did I can't find it.

Very similar to the original style Herbrand but not identical. The Hazet screws were messed up just like almost every Herbrand I have because they are peened, and the bearing plate was bent just like a Herbrand. I can't find locally in the Hillman boxes 5 x 40 usa screws for the Herbrand. But the Hazet uses 3 x .50 metric screws that I could find in the Hillman boxes. So all 4 messed up metric screws on the Hazet were replaced.

Wout for President of the Hazet 916 International Club.

I see your 916's are missing screws. I will trade you the correct metric 3mm x .50 screws for your Hazet round head ratchet:)

I have one of those cool looking vintage Herbrand ratchets. It's intrigues me as to who started it first!? Was it the American who travelled to German on a vacation that got the idea, or was it the German who came to America? :D

Tried to clean and rebuild the most rusted ratchet but it's worn out to much to still work...

I love my Herbrand versions of that ratchet!

You can pick up a parts Hazet ratchet from ebay.:)

If I had your Hazet I would see if Herbrand parts would fit. I did that when I had the Hazet and a Herbrand apart but it has been too long and I don't remember. The back of the Hazet gear was concave (for I reason I could not figure out) and I did try and swap the gears - but I don't remember. The tooth count was the same as I wrote that down.

My Herbrands are WWII era so I would not use them for parts.

I have a lot of 916 ratchets so don't really really need this one working. Don't know if those Herbrands are available here? I have rebuild newer 916's with repair kits from Hazet itself in the past. Only downside to that is that the rebuild kits come with a plastic 'handle' to change direction instead of the nice metal ones from the past.
