Looking at some long pattern German wrenches. Considering the Stahlwille 14 series, Gedore 7XL, and Hazet 600LG (or 600N). Considering two of the three to try out and see which set I will buy. Should I bite the bullet and get one of each? The Gedore and Hazet have a similar shape where the Stahlewille is offset on the box end. The 600LG is the longest (305mm) , Gedore (280mm), and Stahlwille (240mm) all are 17mm. Any insight would be helpful.
What did you end up deciding on?

I'm also looking for input as I am in the same boat - although I don't need the extra long wrenches.

I want a nice, complete set for my hobby automotive work. Recently I have run into a few situations where my gear wrench set didn't have the right size (10-19mm set) and in one case while doing tie rods the head of my wrench spread and slipped. I have snap on sae wrenches and love them, but I fell into them at a ridiculous low price and I'm not sure if I am ready to shell out for metric. I had ordered a wrightgrip 958 set but it was on backorder for 7 weeks then was lost by ups and put on backorder for another month so I am looking for other options...

I have a stahlwille stabil 20 set and love the finish and fit/feel. The open box 14's come in a 6-22 set for around $165 but I would want up to 25mm if possible. The hazet 600N comes in a set from 7 to 24 for nearly the same price but with some skips. Looking at the cost of adding fillers ($60+) it almost seems more practical to look at a gedore 1b set in 6-32mm with no skips.

Looking for advice on how the 1b's compare on fit/finish, how the offset on the box end impacts normal use, or if anyone knows of a more complete stahlwille or hazet set for the money - or a place to find cheaper fillers.

Thanks maico, I was considering the 14/17 set but having trouble finding affordable 23/24/25 wrenches to add on to it. This is why I was wondering how it compares to the gedore 1b.

You probably don't need 23mm or 25mm, they are not ISO, ANSI, DIN or JIS standard sizes and not used by car manufacturers.

I did not know that, the OCD in me just wants every size but it looks like either the 14/17 or 600N/16 set should suffice - now I just need to decide which one. Thanks for the info.

And 24 is 15/16" just as 16 is 5/8" and 8 is 5/16". All within tolerance.

Finally got me a 'Remscheid Halter', wanted one for ages and now found one.
Got it today and searched trough my 450 wrenches to fill it.

Bit confused about it's holding 'only' 8 wrenches and no little half round front on it but it seems no parts were removed from the holder. Found very little information about the small a version, maybe someone can help me out about it?

Would like to have one of my old Assistents like a 2500A. A 2500A was an Assistent filled with all the tools needed to work on a VW back in the days. It's very hard to fill such an Assistent cause it has almost only special tools in it or wrenches with unusual combinations. So I was on the hunt through my stuff...
Could find a few things from the list but far from there :wtf:

Just received my Hazet 4766-1 spark plug socket swivel with extension in this mornings mail! :rocker:
Last picture is just a comparison to another, similar to it from Autozone brand (Duralast?) that I had purchased years ago.

I've got a 600N and gedore 7R on the way. I will update with my thoughts. I haven't ruled out the 14 series, but this is where I ended up. Needed to fill couple holes in existing cart.

I received the 600N-17 and Gedore 7R 19mm wrenches today about a week earlier than expected. The Hazet has a much smoother satin finish opposed to the Gedore looks bead blasted. The forgings on both look good, but the finishing (before plating) on the Hazet isn't as smooth as I am used to. It definitely got more dinged up on it's trip across the pond. I will hold off on final judgment until I get to use them a bit. I will be picking up a stahlwille single before pulling the trigger on any sets. I think the length on the Hazet is pretty perfect.

Have to do some research about it but think it's from the 30ties :headscrat
It has to be a lot older than the other one I posted earlier in this thread.

I posted this in the toolbox thread, but thought it might be more appropriate here. My first Hazet Assistent. This thing is cool!

Is there a reliable way to date these?

Congrats! Welcome to the club :bounce:
It's a 166N, so probably from the 80ties maybe 90ties.
Don't know where you're from but the sticker on it is Dutch (so Netherlands or Belgium) and means 'forbidden to swear'
I once started with a Hazet 171...

I’m in the US and used to regular tool carts, so I’m curious. Are these Hazets actually durable and useful, or more of just a cool novelty?

Hazet are high quality tools made in Remscheid Germany. Company founded in 1868 and still in the same family (Zerver). They started to make the Hazet Assistent in the 50ties and still make them now. The carts became popular cause they were used by Porsche and VW mechanics back in the days. The company made also a lot of special tools specially for VW and Porsche.

Are the current Assistent the same quality as the older ones?

Imo yes, they still make the same ones like in the old days with almost no plastic but beside that they make a new and bigger one with a lot more plastic.

Have to make a new foto where both are next to each other so it shows the new model is bigger. Have foto's of a 162(6)N and a 162(6)C separatly. 2 = 2 interlayers, 6 = collapsible pillars. The 162N has the windowsupports mounted on it.

@Caddybill: Nice score!

New package arrived with also 2 Hazet '2513' 27mm open end wrenches in it. Needed 2 for my VW mechanic Assistent. Gave them a quick wipe and they already look a lot better.

WOUT,

Does the new 166N use plastic middle shelves? Just the top? Or is it just a wobble issue a bit because they do not have the locking mechanism with tightening down the knobs?

I'm trying to decide between either to buy a survivor or brand new... Like the smaller size, being able to fold the supports down and throw in the back of a vehicle. DO NOT want plastic shelves and definitely don't want shelves that wobble and seem 'loose'.

The Lufthansa Miles & More frequent flyer program puts out a catalog for their World Shop that is one of the most interesting ones out there. I'll often pick up a copy passing through Frankfurt and wish some of the stuff were available here.

Here's an item in the 2018 catalog (page 96 HERE) that's sure to be of interest in this thread.

A 130 piece Hazet set in a lower-line 178N Assistant for 999 € (or 275 000 miles) seems not impossible. Pickup in Frankfurt or Munich seems like it could make things difficult, though...

Amazon.de has the Hazet 178N Assistant alone for 1344 €, with no tools!

i-cbvnFzp.png

PS: Pay no attention to the Fiskars stuff in the image above clipped from the catalog. It's irrelevant but in the frame.
