Heated Floor Question

Hello guys and gals,

I'm installing a wifi thermostat for a small bathroom radient heated floor. It's running on 240v.

There's already a 240v circuit for other heating in the house was was previously used by the small baseboard heater in the bathroom.

I've installed a new 20 amp breaker to use a dedicated circuit for the flooring and ran the wire to the same box as the previous thermostat.

It's a 16 CU wide Iberville type box.

The circuit for the other heaters is spliced in the box and the new 240v wire is connected to the new thermostat.

So one 12/2 spliced through the box. One 12/2 coming in. Heating wire header going out to the floor. Sensor wire.

Another option would be to use a 4x4 1900 box with a 1/2 inch one gang mud guard. Would that be better then the above?

So, what is the question? You've already added the circuit breaker and ran wire for the thermostat.
Is the question what box should you use for the thermostat?

I just finished a Quiet Warmth heating system in my remodel and it sounds similar to your situation. Previous heating was baseboards running 240v. So I just used that circuit and existing breaker. The thermostat and wires fit nicely into a single gang box.
The runners to the heat mats all route into a 4x4 1900 box like you are thinking and are all tied together there then route up into the single gang to the thermostat.

So the answer I have for you is use both. But it depends on what system you're using really.

Hi Klokwerk, right now the box is the old 16 cu iberville box (Iberville BC3104).

I was just wondering if the bigger box would be better and safer because the thermostat has a built in GFI which makes the device bigger and it was a tight fit into the box.

The system is WarmFeet 3.7CWC-240V-24 with Ditraheat membrane.

Edited: I got the 4x4 with the 1 gang mud ring. Plenty of room to fill.
