Heating man cave with gas heater project

Hi,
1st post.
I want to heat my garage. I race motorcycles and want heat in there for tinkering during the winter and keeping my bikes warm :)

I got a gas line installed a couple of days ago then found a used heater on Craigslist. It's a 60,000 BTU Peerless brand natural gas. I hung it from my ceiling and now need help connecting it all and getting it working properly.

No electrical or HVAC experience but from my limited research looks like I need to do a horizontal vent by cutting a hole in my wall.

Also I checked my electrical panel and it is full. I was thinking that I would add a double pole breaker switch but there is no empty spots left.

Hanging this thing was a small victory in itself doing it by myself to a 12 foot ceiling... man this thing probably weighs over 100lbs, cost me $80 and the gas line was $500 so I'm already into the project for that amount. Don't care to spend a whole lot if I don't have to but probably do right?

Thanks

If your panel if full, you can just wire it up to plug into an outlet

Most of these heaters pull less than 5 amps

What size garage with 12 ft ceilings? What is your general location? Is your space completely insulated?

Will you only run the unit when working in garage? Or, run it constantly with a thermostat?

Run with thermostat constantly in winter

I had an electrician come today
They ran power by fishing wires through the wall from another switch and then putting in a new main power switch and connecting power to unit along with connecting a thermostat I bought at Home Depot.

They said they could not fully wire unit because there were three different connections and without a wiring diagram for the unit they didn’t want to make a mistake and damage the heater.

Anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for an old Peerless 75 LUH 60,000 btu heater?

Annoying that they couldn’t finish the job and charged me $250
Said they would come back and complete if I could get them a wiring diagram.

My reznor heater has an oval vent like that. I had to squeeze a round 5" reducer over it. I'm sure this is not code though, but I couldnt find the proper pipe in time for the cold.

Not sure that heater (Peerless 75 LUH 60,000) is rated for horizontal venting ?

Is that model a power vent ? That big flue pipe looks like a gravity vent. ?????

Try to down load the installation manual from the internet, it will probably give you some venting options.

Super happy with this heater and it’s really quiet.
I’ll post a video shortly.

So,what kind of bikes do you race?

I do roadracing, this year I’ll likely be racing a 1996 Honda RS125 gp
and my mini moto KX65 with a 80cc big bore
Last year I raced a Yamaha R3.

Shawn,
I too have had difficulty in finding a wiring diagram for the Peerless LUH heaters. Is there a chance you could tell me where the limiter wiring goes to within the junction box, these are the wires you have labeled Yellow I, Yellow II, and Yellow Red. Also a picture of the connections within the junction box (fan, power, transformer, and limiter wires). Thanks

Doug
