I had a Dynaglo vent-less natural gas heater in my three car garage, and it heated the space just fine. My wife complained a lot about the smell, but it didn't bother me. However, breathing products of combustion from the heater can't be good for your long-term health.

I would have liked to had a heat pump, but since I only need heat except for a few days a year, I opted for a 60K Reznor. It was about half the price of a heat pump. I installed an on-demand tankless water heater about the same time, and my gas bill is less than last year even though I run the Reznor 4-5 days a week for about 6-7 hours a day (Set at 70F) from November to April.

My home garage shops 8,500 square feet in seven distinct garages are heated and air conditioned using Five Armstrong MagicPak ducted forced air gas heat and electric A/C units. This one is the biggest unit at 3 tons cooling and 60,000 BTU heating that takes care of 3,600 square feet. While the other four are 1 ton cooling and 36,000 BTU heating for the other four garages. I also run a total of eight 70 pint dehumidifiers as you see to the right of the furnace in each area..

It's puts out more than enough heat or cold for the Ohio weather that varies between winter's minus 5 degrees F to 95 summer heat.. Even with all the equipment or stored cars on lifts. There are no area unpleasant areas... It's always pleasant t-shirt comfort..

Good ol’ wood boiler burning crappy fence line wood and coal. It cleans up after the first burn cycle and doesn’t smoke at all after a few burn cycles. Heats close to 10,000sq ft and gobbles wood like a fat kid eating cake. In floor heat in the shop and infloor and forced air in the house. I run a dehumidifier all year long in the shop to keep it from getting dank.

Same way I heat my house. Woodstove. 30 x 40 shop. Been heating it that way for 35 years. Keep all the gas cans outside in the shed. But the vette stays in there, or anything else I'm working on. I usually have to run the stove a couple hours in winter before I go in to work on anything. I have fans, and various rudimentary heat sinks on and around the stove. Double wall super chimney outside.
