Heavy duty work bench

Here is a few shots of my heavy duty workbench I finished last year. I have been using it and I love it! I love the fact that I can jack it up in 30 seconds and move it with one hand around the shop. It weighs around 1300 lbs... Thanks for looking.

I also installed a female boat plug in the frame tube and installed outlets around the table so I could work with limited power cord disruption.

The table is 4'x8' and was water jet all around to square up the edges and also has radius cut at the corners so there is not such a sharp corner to jab you.

How thick is the steel top?

It is 3/4" thick. 4'x8'

Seen several tables with the jacks on the castors like that, they work really nice.

Thanks, it works for what I do with it. I have debated on drilling holes in it and just cant bring myself to do it. I even went and purchased a mag drill and still have not drilled it out. I have considered only drilling a quarter or maybe half. Someday.

Very nice design. My own experience with the center, low crossbar is it prevents anything useful from being put under the bench. If you cut it out and rewelded it on the "back" then you have the entire space opened up underneath for toolboxes, cabinets, refrigerators, etc.

If the bench is always in motion then maybe not a big deal but if they grow roots like they seem to in my shop, there's some potential for more storage there.

Thats a great point and even with wheels on this one and all the work, it seems to grow roots at times. I make a point to keep it open and attempt to keep things away from it. Items tend to creep up from time to time and I am inclined to find new homes. I like your idea if it was moved against a wall as well.

Jake: This white welding table was on the cover of GJ one of the first few months that I joined and i was going to build it so i started a build thread and then my moving plans changed so I scrapped the project. if we do ever move which isn't likely now and I do get a huge shop i'd love to build a bench just like this.

in fact I get a lot of members asking me about plans for the table that I was going to build and i was just going to make it as I cut and welded it together so i'm happy to refer those members to you or your friend so they can get real plans.

nice work and while i agree that having a few holes in the top of your plate might come in handy it sure does look nicer clean and without holes. do as you will and i'm sure if you end up needing holes you'll drill a few.

you might like to add a hitch mount so you can put your vises or grinders or press or whatever on a hitch/plate so you can have them at the ready to use and not have them installed on your nice work surface.
