Hello Guys and Gals,

Stumbled across this today, as I am just lost as to what to build how much to spend, (what do I budget) and what all do I want to do.

I am a jack of all trades and a master of none that said, in my random world of thinking I am wanting to get into welding and machining as a hobby (not that I don’t have enough already). I also need to build a shop/multi-car garage/semi storage/tractor parking spot, what have you.

I am very excited to peruse the boards, and open up to a world of awesome advice looking forward to asking questions and learning.

Time to start looking!!

Michael

Mike: welcome to the group. there is maybe more information on this site and in these guys heads than anywhere else on the internet or maybe the world.

i read a fair amount of threads and i've got a few of my favorite garages so if you ask i'll try to give you a few more links besides this one that a member built for himself. it's a quick read and this member uses it as his hobby or personal garage/shop even though it's pretty big.

great. there are a lot of great garages posted on here that is for certain.

pretty much the standard answer when asking how big should i build my shop is: if your size can be whatever you want and not confined by lot size or permit then they will say build it as big as you can afford. and then a bit bigger just because.

i think the guys that built and own 60x120's still run out of room.

good luck

SM: i wish i was in your shoes that is for certain. i lease a shop and i GET a 9x15 portion of our 2 car garage at home, but someday that will change.

might i suggest that you read a few threads and if you find some that have similar garages you'd like to build or like their quality give them a good word or if you have questions ask on those threads. it's sometimes better to move around the forum and get to know a lot of members and getting to know who has good information (most of us do) and if you have time start a thread on your garage. just know that if you post a lot of pictures, ask a lot of questions sometimes it takes members a while to see them so keep posting. i've got hundreds of threads that started out like i was writing a book and talking to myself until they took off.

i used to hang only in old tools, but i sure like watching guys build their dream garages now and how they seem to fill them up.

if you want some EYE CANDY take a look at DON LONG'S thread and here's a link: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153099
