Help choosing the correct breaker

Hi all,

I need to add a 220v 30amp breaker to my GE panel for a welder. Is it just a matter of finding a GE breaker with the correct specs or does GE have more than 1 style?

This is a photo of one already in the panel. The numbers are NP1578012-C and E11592S.

There is GE THQP and THQL you can use either one is 1/2” wide and the other is 1” wide per pole , the space available for a 2 pole breaker for 240V is going to dictate what can be used.

I take this is a stab in panel and not a bolt in. That breaker that you linked will work. They also make the thinner style. The main thing with the thinner style is that when you put them in, is that they are contacting both legs of the panel. I have had service calls for not having 240 volt to a dryer, and found the breaker to be installed wrong.

Does your panel have a label on the inside cover? The compatable breakers should be listed there.

The newer style thin GE breakers have a different bus connection than the older style.

Not that I saw. I’m not planning on going with the thin style.

IIRC the 1/2" thin breakers can only go in certain spots due to the way they connect to the bus but my memory is dim on GE panels because i do not work on them much.
