Help finding a fastener !!

I'm not sure where this belongs as it's more of a wanted thread but the solution may require some fabrication if the part doesn't exist.

I have a New Holland round baler that I want to put dual tires on. I found this dual adapter for a Ferguson tractor that is the wrong size BUT it leads me to believe there may be other sizes available that I cannot seem to locate with the level of Google that I can muster up.

My baler has 5/8"-18 threads in the hub and I intend to use threaded rod to bolt the duals on. They will come off when not needed so I cannot just use one single long piece of threaded rod. I've thought about doing a short stud through the factory rim with a coupling nut sticking out to connect the dual hardware to but figured I may as well ask on here to see if anyone knows if this exists in the size I need.

I'd consider a new or used set of the flotation type tires and wheels that are pretty standard now on newer bailers.
In the long run 2 tires are easier to keep up with than 4 and the associated hardware and possibly bearing problems.

The new round baler has the larger tires already and still sinks in 8-10" in the soft meadow. When I ordered the baler I think the larger tires were in the neighborhood of a $4,500 option

The tractor is pawing it's way out of a hole dragging the baler in the bog and I think duals will help a lot ............


I already have the duals and bands that will fit on the round baler. We used them on the square baler until I bought a round baler. The round baler weighs less than 1/2 of what the big square baler does !! I was trying to find a better way to attach them than the cheesy rods Pops came up with 20yrs ago for the square baler.


We've ran them on this baler for a long time without issue. The duals are inflated just enough that they don't come off the rims, something silly like 5psi. They hold air great and don't leak and aren't really needed but will make things easier by allowing the baler to float more which will keep the opening for the hay to enter larger so it'll feed better and take less power.

My mistake, I had pictured a early, heavy NH rollabar with knife like skinny tires.
Good luck with the duals because the alternative (buying a new bailer with tandem axles) certainly will not be cheap.

Fair enough !! I think those early rollabar balers had 9.5-14 pizza cutter tires so yeah, boat anchors

I think McHale is the only company stateside that makes a round baler with tandems. Most make square balers with tandems though but they're well north of $200k for a new one.

I test fit the duals to the baler to make sure they would actually fit before spending a couple hundred bucks in hardware and it's perfect. They ride about 2" off the ground so there will be minimal stress on the baler when the baler is on dry hard ground. I'm going to order the dual adapters and some threaded rod tonight and bolt them on. I'm pretty pumped !!

I needed a longer socket so I used my socket stretcher on an 1-1/16" SnapOn impact socket. It turned out decent so far. Needs paint and the "SnapOn" stamped back into it. It got all melty when I welded it together


These 5/8-18 threaded rods are both lug studs and lug nuts. There is a 3/4" nut welded onto the end of each of them to drive them in and the 1-1/16" nut will act as a lug nut to hold the duals on my round baler.


They are mocked up here before welding the nuts on the end of the rods. I trimmed them down a bit but the need for a longer socket stems from not knowing which way will work best to have the dual on the baler. I can take the center spacer out and flip the dual around and it'll stick out around 4" more.


They thread into the dual adapters that stay on the baler when the duals are off. I'm pretty stoked to use these things in a few days !!
