Hey Guys,

So I just bought a house this past August with a pretty nice (for me) 2 car detached garage where I can work on my cars and motorcycles. The previous owner of the home had worked for several NASCAR teams over the past ~20 years as a machinist. He left me an old Snap On tool box, which I'd like to restore and move to my hobby room in the house.

I've tried searching for information on this tool box, but haven't had much luck. I'm not even certain that it is a Snap On tool box since the most similar model that I've found on the internet is the Mac Tools "MB 12", which appears to be almost identical. The Snap On logo on the front of the box sort of seems too modern for a box of this age, but I'm probably wrong about that.

On the large tray under the lid, there is a stamp which says "MODEL 09 82". Searching this term hasn't given me any results.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!.

Thanks, "restore" might not be the right word. At the very least I'd like to have the small dents rubbed out and maybe give it a fresh coat of paint.

That isn’t a Snap-On box. If it is Mac or Matco, it will have a label similar to the one you show on either the back or side. It could also be a Rem Line. Look at the drawer slides. If Mac or Matco, they will have clips on them. If Rem Line, it won’t. If it is a knock-off, I can’t help too much.

Thanks for the responses. I'll take a closer look at the slides tomorrow after work.

I was hoping it would be a genuine vintage tool truck box, but even if it's a fake, I'll still use it.

It seems pretty sturdy and well built. The only problem I've found is that the lid sometimes won't close unless I shake one of the middle drawers.

It looks like a very nice box. All it has to do is hold tools, and yours looks good doing it. Open the drawer and send a picture of the slide. That should nail it down.

It almost looks like a later Waterloo... my 12 drawer R&G Craftsman top box (from the early 70's) looks similar, and while not a "truck box" it is still a good box...

I figure if a tool box does it's job, I don't care if it says "Snap on" or "Craftsman"... as long as it doesn't fold in half when I'm moving it.

Nice looking box, in great shape. Give it a coat of wax and call it done!
Doesn’t really matter who made it, pretty cool of the PO to leave it for you.

I was thinking Waterloo too but it's probably Remline.

Never seen a Mac or matco of that style with plain Drawer pulls.

I have a couple Snap-On boxes of that era, there are slight differences.
I wouldn't be too bothered whether it is SO or not.
Box looks great, I would just add tools.
Nice Box
