Help on this Parker vise

I have checked on dayid.org for information on this vise. Well, there really isn’t any for this model. So here is what I have… C. Parker Model # 2301. It has a 4” wide jaw opens to ~5.5-6” and weighs 42 lbs without it’s missing swivel base. On Dayid.org, I see the 4” in the 200 series have pretty different weights. The 204 weighs 57 lbs and the 234 weighs 89lbs. I would guess that it is more like the 204 (the 104 is a fixed base and is 43 lbs). The collar is in good shape and shows ‘pat no 38 1867’. The numbers on the collar are pretty rough to make out. Those are my best guesses.

My questions are;
What other parker models swivel base could possibly fit this?
I have a 973 ½ and a 975 and both don’t have a threaded ‘******’ on the fixed jaw for the swivel base. Does this have a different swivel locking mechanism?
Is the crack on top of the slide repairable?
I only paid $10, so it could just be a parts donor. I figured the collar alone was worth the $10.
Any information is greatly appreciated.

FWIW, a vise is very usable without the swivel base.

I use a Rock Island by mounting it with two bolts through the holes in the flange where the swivel locks would go and a larger bolt through the center hole.

On one like your Parker, it has a center stub which would have to be countersunk in the bench, but that's no biggie.

I'd disassemble, clean then assess if it's functional with the crack. A good welder can braze it for you.

KY: here is a link that might help you with the crack on the back of your slide. i'm guessing most any good welder can repair that crack to make your vise usable, but one thing to check if you haven't already is can you pull the front dynamic jaw out all the way. if not maybe the person that cracked the slide widened it so that will have to be fixed too.

good luck and i hope you save that old girl.

The Parker 2300 apparently used two different shape of swivel locks as seen in the picture below from member TOOMANYTOYZ. The one in the ad looks like it is either a cam type of lock or just that it has a screw in/out lever. Maybe the one in the picture below is an older model? I like to think that the lever is a later addition for that model as it might be easier to use than the "butterfly" type of lock.
