If that is the new price, then used should be like 25% off. Why buy new unless you have the money burning a hole in your pocket. But then if you have the money, buy used and then buy some more tools.

Remember we're in a recession,National unemployment rates are rising every month. Now had this still been 1994-95 i could understand

I am so so so sick of hearing that, I really am.

I was reading the other day about some one wanting to get into the Automotive trade because they liked doing it and as soon as they posted it people are saying don't do it it ***** right now we are all out of work. I hear the same thing for most all the trades. Yes i keep in mind we are talking about a tool box. But i mean If you have to judge everything you do on something that "might" or "could" happen. That's a crummy way to live.

Alot of people are out of work, Of a industry that was way overinflated. The world works that way, same with wild life. If there get to be alot of rabbits, the fox's eat well and there become more. The rabbits run low they die off till more rabbits come along. Its how it works.

He has also yet to mention If he will even have a chance of losing his job or not.

Yesh.

For the record:

New price per snapon website just for the KRL1023APCM box is $10,395, add the locker, SS top, and riser, MSRP per snapon website is over $17,000.

So my snapon guy offer same box new including SS top for $7,400 over 6 months with no interest plus a $740 gift card.

What do you guys think would be a "buy it" price for the ebay deal? $6,000 for everything?

Diesel, that is a good point. I'm quite certain my job is secure for the time being. Actually, I believe the economic downturn is in part what is keeping my industry alive. When people are stressed/depressed/worried they tend to drink more?(I think, or so it seems) <--- we need an icon cheersing with WINE glasses:bounce: A big/bigger box is crucial to me staying organized, and increasing productivity in my family's operation. You know, those dealerships, and factory service people get expensive fast with field labor rates approaching $110/hr in our parts. The more I can do myself, saves us from much unneeded downtime and helps us save more money in the end - not to mention aquiring much of our own tools/equipment in the process:thumbup::beer: Any wine drinkers on the board?

I guess new would have better resale? Why can't he just take the $740 off the price and make it like $6600?

GSSFC,
Actually, he said he would get back to me on that, 'cause he said something like SO used to offer either a 10% of purchase price gift card OR a rebate on the box price - so that may actually be another option.

buying a toolbox for wholesale price or a little less isn't that great of a deal, with a large professional grade box, don't pay more than 35-40 percent of retail, and thats the high end. If you wait around you will find one for 20-25% of retail.

I have had very good luck moving my toolbox (when I don't hire a flatbed tow truck) with a particular style of car trailer (from a rental place) the bottom is solid and flat and the whole bed tilts and it has a winch(manual) built in, works almost perfect for toolbox transport. If you are moving the box from one shop to another (both with hoists) use the hoist to pick it up and drop it on a flatbed truck, if you dont have a flatbed truck I have used super heavy tie down straps to make a sling between the hoist arms, that way you can pick the box up and set it in the bed of a truck while the hoist arms clear the boxsides, it may sound a little sketchy but it works very well and the box is surprisingly stable dangling there in the air, just don't forget to lock the hoist arms so they don't swing.

sometimes your "time" is important. it might take you a whole day to get a truck, drive there, and load it. I'm sure that weekday or weekend day is worth a lot.

I say offer the snappy guy $7,000 + 10% gift card. Have him deliver it and call it a day.

or find a used one for 25-30% of retail.

Paumanok,

If you are looking for a deal, get in your truck on Saturday, drive to Atlanta, rent a U-Haul trailer, buy this box, load it that night, drive back home on Sunday and show off the new box next week. For $4,500 you get the KRL triple bay, side locker, workstation riser and top storage units. That's $3,700 more in your pocket for two days of you time driving and gas.....

Hey guys,
I'm considering this box/combo here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Snap-On-large-TOOLBOX-TOOL-BOX-KRL1023-7972-1012-PCM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1171Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem4146a8af02QQitemZ280358334210QQptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools#ht_500wt_1375

It seems like a decent deal, but more importantly its like a 3hr drive for me. I'm thinking about the best way to bring it home. Leave it all connected?(Riser and locker still connected) Separate the riser and locker to lower the overall height? And what should i pick it up with? A Uhaul with a liftgate? Trailer? I'm a little intimidated due to the size of this thing and don't want to be struggling to get it loaded up, only to drop and damage it:shocking: It would be easier to buy new from Snappy, but at this price the savings would be substantial:thumbup: Plus I don't have $15,000 to buy new. Let me hear what you think. Thanks GJ!

I just did a google search on how to move this setup and found this thread, so I joined up. I'm making plans to move my setup and was wondering how you moved yours? I know a standard liftgate won't work, I've tried. I don't really want to unload and disassemble it so my Snap-on guy is out. So far, my plan is to call a flatbed tow truck to haul it using some heavy-duty ratchet straps. Here's my box:

A flat bead and lots of good 2 or 3 inch ratchet straps. That box is going to be real heavy 3 thousand pounds give or take. It is going to be real top heavy also. So try to get it as stabilized on a truck the best you can.

Good Luck and be safe.

Around here many people move their box using the method you mentioned. Call a flatbed and let them know that they are moving a tool box. When i moved my box i used a friends tilt bed trailer that has a winch which is a poor boys tow truck.

Funny this thread just got bumped back to the top:lol_hitti I'm talking to my SO guy abou a brand new KRL1023 in royal blue. He has come down to $7,200 + a $200 gift card and 6 months same as cash. $7,200 includes the Stainless top.

Prices of the Snapon website:

KRL1023APCM - $10,395.00

KRSST7003B - $884.85

Total msrp $11,279.85 He's offering for - $7,200 a savings of 4,079.85.

Do you guys consider this a good deal for this NEW setup. I was gonna ask him to throw in a nice cover for the box too.

Hell yes I do - especially compared to what Diesel_Crawler just did - he dropped the whole 11K on his new green 1023. :shocking:

But then again, 11K to him is like $11.00 to us common folk. :badteeth:

I think that's a great price on a new 1023! And no transporting worries. Go for it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm concerned about it being top heavy so I'll probably empty the top section. Will take pics of the move and post. Thanks.

If you go over the top with the straps, over padding, of course, you don't have to empty the top. You winch off of the set of wheels on one end and then use the J- hooks through the wheels on the other end to secure it fore and aft on the bed. Then you go over the top with the straps to keep it planted on the bed. I was a little nervous the first time I did it, hell, I was real nervous, but it worked out OK. KR1000 with a KR1200 top box, a little smaller than yours.

I would put any rental truck, tow truck monies toward offering someone with truck and enclosed car trailer to pick-up. Place misc ads on Craigs list offering cash or your mechanical labor ($$$) to pick-up box for you.

Below see what I did to pick-up my used KRL1022...................

That box that Brian has would be near impossible to push up any ramp unless its winched in.

If snap on's doing so great as he said then why is he so eager to get you to buy? It just seems that hes really pushing the sale... Regardless if thats what you want then go for it!!

Just following up with a pic of my 1023 (with top and side locker) on a flatbed. Winched it by the casters and it BARELY cleared with the side locker on. Laziness prevailed and I didn't even unload the tools (and it is FULL!). It scraped the bottom edge a little on the unload because of the side locker overhang. What a PITA, but happy to have it with all my toys! I can say that there is no other practical way to move this box.

CamarosRus, I have a double-axle Haulmark trailer...no way in the world my 1023 would fit. While moving, I wished several times that I had the smaller 1022 like yours!

Gabriel- I agree still a big chunck of $$ and i am not committed to it. But more importantly do you or anyone else have any suggestions for picking up and transporting a setup of this size a distance of like 100 miles? For the sake of the discussion, what would be the best way to load/unload this without a forklift? And what type of vehicle to transport with? I'm thinking either trailer with ramp/or box truck with hydraulic liftgate? Thanks in advance.

When I picked up mine a couple of weeks back, I separated the side box from the main cabinet, laid the main cab flat on it's back in the back of my van, put a towel across it, then laid the side box on top. Used a couple of ratchet straps criss-crossed and linked together to hold it steady and firm. No issues over the 3.5hr drive home (other than some rattling). Take the drawer liners out first though.. mine ere all bunched up inside when I got home.
