I inherited a box full of taps that I'm sorting through and organizing into Huot indexes. What I need help with is what drill bits to go in the indexes with the taps. HSS, black oxide, cobalt, 118, 135 degree points. to many choices. This is for general purpose set, occasional use. May be used on steel, aluminum, maybe stainless.

Norseman Super Magnum, if I am correct, black oxide isn't very good for aluminum and stainless steels.(titanium coating would be better)

Since you're talking about taps and intend to drill/tap metal, I personally would stay with HSS or if you can afford them Cobalt. If you search some you can find decent Fractional, Letter, and Number set in HSS for fair prices.

My good sets are HSS with a 118 and they handle everything I do for both steel and aluminum.
