I live in Anchorage Alaska (about the same climate as where I grew up in Wisconsin actually)
My son has my old house with a 20'x22' insulated attached garage, the two doors have fiberglass blankets but they ARE a little leaky.
I had an old Modine 30K BTU unit and the heat exchanger cracked so I advised my son to get a new one. Instead of the $300 unit from Home Depot I told him if he were going to keep the house a while I would replace it with a Modine, which up here was the best part of $800.
It's been installed but the air does not feel HOT like the old one did. It's firing up and that heat exchanger is hot enough to burn you if you touch it (I know that for a FACT)
If you stand a few feet away it just feels like you're standing in front of a fan, if you get right up next to it it merely feels "warm".
It seems to me like this fan speed is much higher. Is this a matter of the heater working but it just doesn't feel the same? or are the new heaters just not as HOT? I used to get the garage pretty warm with the old unit. I haven't said much yet because to be honest I'm afraid I gave my son some bad advice.
Advice much appreciated!!
