Help with stripes

My last photos in "My add-on" went up to the point of insulating the walls.
Well, the drywall is done and I've painted the walls. Half white and half gray (I know- very original)

I've added a couple photos of the toys waiting to move in. I'd like to reproduce the black strip from the Mustang onto the wall where the colors meet.

Any good ideas on creating the stripe? I am hesitant on using the painters tape because I think it'll leave jagged edges.

I don't know why you had to insult your walls, but to each his own....

Anyway, you can use the painters tape with success. Just smear a small dab of caulk on your finger and run it along the seam where the tape meets the wall. Then paint your stripe and remove the tape before it dries completely.

My walls were much too rough to try and tape off an paint (OSB) .. so I bought moulding and painted it (top and bottom black, middle red) and attached to the wall .. worked well. You could do the same with 3 pieces of moulding, half round top and bottom, and a larger moulding in the middle to get your thin black/largeblack/thin black design.

Just a thought.

I did have to go back and edge all the lines with white paint again after using painter's tape. My wall was just too rough to get a good clean line even after having a new coat of paint.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm considering both angles.
The wife finished the 2nd coat of gray today while I put onthe 2nd coat of ceiling paint. Next weekend the lights go up and hopefully the final electrical will be complete.

Nova S4: That is exactly what I'm looking for but in Black. I'm trying to keep the walls, floor, ceiling, and cabinets the monochrome scheme. I have a red roll-away and plan to refinish the "monster bench" in red as well. Basically I'm keeping it neutral and the color will be in the Schwag I hang on the walls.

I bought some "frog" tape that is supposed to leave crisper lines. Hopefully it won't tear away what I've already done.

If it doesn't work, I'll try Bcubed's approach.

The wife had an idea that I'm on board with. She is buying smoked window tint for all the glass to keep the garage cool. Certainly beats curtains

I'm still deciding between "Origainal Color Chips" and Wolverine for the floor coat.

I plan to install 13 windows in the rest of the house and clapboard 2 sides of the house before the end of September. Did I mention I just bought a hot tub That comes with a deck rebuild.....

Let me know how the Frog Tape works out. I'm planning on doing some stripes but just haven't commited to the technique.

Tape your stripe with blue painter's tape. Next paint the edge of the tape with the color that the tape is masking. This will seal the tape to the wall and prevent the stripe color from bleeding under the tape. Finally, paint your stripe.

Since you're doing 3 stripes, you might want to consider vinyl stripes. I used Avery high performance vinyl tape for my garage and it came out great. It comes in many different widths and colors. I wanted to paint but was very concerned about color bleeding from painters tape. I did 3 different colored stripes. I suppose if it was just one stripe, I would have gone the paint route.

That is great. For the cost and my time and sanity, the vinyl might be the trick.

Any cons you can think of? Did you have trouble with stretching or bubbling of the materials? What grade did you buy. The standard seems reasonable.

I used the std grade. No problems putting it on. Another person around helps... my brother helped me out. I was told the tape works the best on enamel paint, so the white stripe you see is latex enamel paint.

I got the idea from someone who replyed to one of my posts about multiple stripes, so I'm returning the favor. Post pictures when you are done!
