Hex key deep dive

I had been holding out buying some RBRT hex keys, and when I finally went to look, MAC tools stopped selling them. It looks like SBD stopped production of these (now sold from the original manf. of "RBRT," GripEdge Tools). I have the Facom OGV hex bit sockets and were impressed with them. So I thought to buy the RBRT hex key set. Anyhow, I called MAC and to my surprise the lady said they had one more in stock and I was able to buy the last one from their shelf. I've since received them, and it's a total game changer. I thought Wera Hex Plus could never be topped, but dang, these keys grip and fit tight in screws.

Mac stopped selling the RBRT?

Oh thats going to go over well for warranty. They pushed the RBRT line/concept super hard. Guys with these premium (very expensive) keys that are going to be orphans. Good job Mac, no way this can possibly backfire.

When I was on the phone, she said that there was still stock and backstock of everything else. I didn't ask about warranty when I was on the phone with them, so I can't answer that unfortunately.

Seems they still advertise them on their website. Weird that they'd stop such a successful line. Is maybe this why they introduce the RBRT profile on the new Craftsman wrenches?

@aggiegrads this is an interesting thread, thanks for the discussion.

There are metric Proto round (ball-ended) hex keys on Amazon for less than $15. Compared to other sets that are up to or above $60.. how will the quality compare? It should be USA made being its Proto but I don’t know if that really means much these days.

It’s not fancy.. doesn’t have colors, special coatings, not polished, etc. the blue tool holder will match nicely with my Park tools stuff.. so that’s a plus 🤣.

I would use this for work on my bikes. I already have various CR-V and S2 bits and but ratchet by PrestaCycle, a Park Tools 3-way hex tool, a Pro Bike tools torque wrench and bits, but no ball-end tool and only Husky standard L keys.

I also see a deal on a full set of mm/sae/torx keys from Lexivon with lifetime guarantee. This brand doesn’t get much praise or discussion here.. but the reviews are solid on Amazon.

Any experience with either? Thanks!
