I had high hopes of finishing this today, just wasn't in the cards.
I did how ever make some progress.

Royce

Royce, been around skilled welders and toolmakers my whole working life. You have all the skills of the best of them but what else you have is imagination and that sets you apart. Really enjoy your work and look forward to seeing more. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Tinner,
From previous posts of yours, I know you got a good sense of humor.
Have a look at that link I posted and tell me it's not hilarious.

Royce

That was hilarious, I'd never seen it before. Tom Waits is one of my musical heroes.

Very high praise coming from a very skilled tradesman.
That makes my day and is not taken lightly, thank you kindly.
I really enjoy seeing the fine work you turn out, also.

Made a little more headway.
Still need to cap the ends of the pipe, lop the base down a few inches and make a wrench for the swivels.

I see you have another dual vise stand in one of the pictures above. Am I correct in assuming that you use these to hold odd angled pieces together for welding or other fitting? I have to agree with KM Scott that you have the skills and imagination to pull off some great stuff.

Royce: it never gets old reading and looking at pictures of some of your COOL STUFF. if it get's old by me saying WELL DONE AGAIN SIR!! you let me know because that is awesome what you do and make out of scrap steel and bits and pieces.

sort of like the guy that made my Bison in my Avatar i have that lives in South Dakota.

keep up the great thinking and doing and take and post as many pictures as you can about the process to show some of us how it is even possible.

WELL DONE

BTW are you running out of floor space or just building another shop or making yours bigger with an addition next spring. or selling off a few of these gems so you can buy more scrap to make more of them??

Yes, the other stand that has multiple vises on it, works well for joining two pieces of any angle, horizontally.
This stand was built to hold at any angle vertically.
Thank you

Yes, I am definitely out of floor space and need to add on.
I would entertain any offers on any of these things I build.
I am losing interest in making vise stands, right now, because of so many other things that need done.
But, I do want to build one with some of the design elements of this one in the sketch shown.
Thank you

Royce

Royce: truly wish you lived closer because i'd be your gofer or Sous chef so to speak when you are cooking up and working on these projects.

here's one of my all time favorites in case you haven't seen it yet and my memory can't recall off hand who made it, but maybe it might give you some ideas to make one better or add to the one you just posted. obviously i like the new handle the person made for that big old vise too and how could you not.

good luck and hope you get things buttoned up good before that freeze hits you up by the north pole again.

cheers

Larry: thanks for the link and the memory refresher.

Royce: your skills and designs rival Chip's stands and other than not being as shiny i might like yours as well or better.

remember i said i have stuff and some pipe fittings? here's about a 1/3 of what i have to ORGANIZE. i'm hoping to weld and get a portion of your skills to weld up some cool stuff myself one day.

speaking of ORGANIZING can you visit my (GJ's) ORGANIZING 201 thread and post up your cool wood cabinet you made for those lista drawers? and any other organizing tricks and tips you can?

here's the link:

That Foose vise is some kind of fine.

Looks like you got some great materials there.

I'll see about posting a pic in your other thread, but I'm about the last man you want organizing tips from, I live my life in mayhem!!!
Thanks again

Royce: your stand was so amazing looking that i didn't even look close enough to see the socket with the handle you made for adjustments. i also didn't notice that it looks like you can loosen and tighten the barrels the vises are sitting on to give them many more positions. any chance you can put the vises in different positions that you made it for if that's what you did? AWESOME JOB CUTTING AND WELDING and DESIGN is over the top.

have a great day

Royce: once i saw and figured out what you did I was truly amazed. then you post up pictures showing how your stand can move those big old vises around like toys in almost any position i'm speachless which doesn't happen often.

that might be my favorite vise stand that you've built even though i still really like the fire hydrant ones too.

WELL DONE SIR!! you sir are an artist and i'm loving the bowling alley benches you are finishing up also.

cheers

There are those of us who look at a rock, and see a rock, and then there are those like Raffaello and Michelangelo who looked at a piece of stone and saw an ornate sculpture hidden in there, waiting to be released.
Royce, you are indeed an artist of both vision and skill, akin to those old masters of their day. Your creations are as impressive for the vision that brought them to mind as they are in the execution that brings them to life.
I am awed by them all, each more than the last.

Kudos!!
