I know, I know, it's Harbor Freight, but they claim 450lbs. capacity. Reg. $229, it's now only $109 bucks +tax with coupon code 73019115.

Would be good for an additional box that needs to be mobil.

There is usually a $99 coupon for this in a lot of car magazines. Hemmings muscle machines April issue has it, and that was the first one I checked.

I am interested in picking one of these up but $97 to have it shipped! :yikes:

Their website says a HF is 'opening soon' in a town relatively nearby (30 miles away). Guess I'll wait. Can't really beat the price on this if in fact it is really a sturdy unit.

You have to assemble it. It seemed to me they were usually on sale for $99 most of the time. I have one too. :)

Although it is "solid" I still didn't feel like it would hold up over the years of rolling across my driveway so I reinforced the bottom where the casters are attached to just thin sheet metal. There is a thread in the tool section where people have discussed their own modifications.

When I finally get some extra cash, I am also going to add better casters even though the ones included work okay, but a high-quality caster would roll as easy as pushing it with one finger.

Just my opinion.

I LOVE mine. I do not doubt it will hold 450 pounds sitting there, or rolling on a SMOOTH shop floor. For the price, it can NOT be beat....

If HF claims 450, I'm sure it will do 200 at least.

If you are talking about weight capacity, 450 is real world. I have at least 500lbs if not more piled on mine and it rolls around the smooth concrete shop like a half ton of butter. I got mine for $90 as a floor display model, I had to tighten every bolt but they are worth full retail IMO but being a tightwad, I wouldn't pay retail.

How does this one compare with their red, 5 drawer cart that costs about $50 more? Does anyone have experience with both?

Although I agree with most of the statements on here, the cart is a pretty solid cart and for the money, its tough to beat. HOWEVER, i found it inconvenient at my place of work. The top isnt near as deep as i would like. Pry bars, and screwdrivers wont allow the lid to close with them in the sides, so that took up the whole third drawer. I ended up keeping sockets and wrenches in the top, which is fine, but then i was stuck with hammers and impact in the bottom drawer, and the top 2 drawers were ratchets, extensions and pliers.

For home use, where i dont have to lock my stuff up, it is absolutely great. However, i ended up with a matco tools 4 drawer that was alot deeper for 450 bucks 8 months old. At least i can pile my tools in there and actually close the lid and lock it with the pry bars where they are designed to go.

I have one its actually held up surprisingly well. Ive beat the heck out of it and its still going strong. Might need new wheels sooner rather than later but for a 100 bucks its a steal.

There's a stupidly huge thread you must have seen 50 times....
I can't link to it on my phone.

Yes, I know the thread you're referring to, regarding modifications to both. I was wondering if someone with experience with both carts could compare how much 'better' the red one is vs the black, out of the gate.

I got the black one. co worker got the red one. quick comparison, and i mean quick

The red one pros
It is deeper
5 drawer
taller
I wouldnt say its "better" but it does feel sturdy and firm rolling around

Cons
drawer layout, i hate it
little higher in price

Black 4 drawer pros
drawer layout, works very well for me.
when on sale at under 100 bucks its a great deal

Cons-
depth of the top space. I cant fit any pry bar from craftsman to snap on in the rack and have the lid close. this is very annoying to either have to remove them or use up drawer space when in a shop enviornment and leaving it unlocked is not an option
when loaded down, and given a slight push from side to side it has some play in it.

just my mere opinion. I love the HF black cart for my home garage. For the shop i work in I had to buy a bigger one, namely for the depth of the top space, usable side racks and the space on the bottom for cans, gaskets, oils, fuel and what not.

Thanks for the quick info. Your thoughts pretty much seal the deal on the black cart for me as I will sparingly use it and will have the bulk of my tools in my regular chest. And for home use it should be fine.

I have the red, 5-drawer cart and love it. It is worth 'full' price, but great that you can usually get it around $160 USD.

I have been considering the black cart for my OA welding and brazing stuff (torches, tips, fluxes, gloves, wire brushes, grinding disks, etc.) Thinking about making it so the screwdriver holes on one side are removed and insert tubes to hold filler rods. I would set it up so each drawer has the equipment for a specific metal (mild steel, aluminum, copper, stainless steel.) The space underneath the drawers would be great for holding a couple of welding hoods. Of course, I suppose that for the price, I might as well get another 5-drawer cart for welding supplies. Every tool cabinet seems to fill up quickly, once you are a member of GJ!

Have the similar red one the one drawer, forget what I paid, maybe $80 or so with a coupon (never go to HF without one) and like it so far. Good quality and a good price.

I got a Val-Pak-type envelope in the mail yesterday with a HF coupon in it to get the 4-drawer cart for $99, so I suspect that is going around.

Look in just about any car magazine and most have the %20 off coupons, if not just go to the site or google search and either download them or just show them on your smart phone at the counter. Never go to harbor freight without at least a %20 off coupon, sometimes the super coupons are better though. Got my welding helmet for $39 with a super coupon but the %20 off would have been about $50 or so. Here you guys go..... coupon good til the end of the month, but they are always up somewhere.

They go on sale for $100 all the time, and it's well worth it. I paid $79 for mine a few years ago when you could use the 20% off on them, and it's been great. I've had it full of tools, supplies, and have had multiple transmissions on it, and it rolls fine. That said, I do wish I had gotten the red one just for the fact that the top tray is deeper, and you can put most screw drivers in there with the handles sticking up. The black one is like 1/2" too short for a lot of them, so the drop through holes are kinda useless. Anyways, I got the black one because it matched our toolbox, and I can't really fault it for that
