I bought a Harbor Freight 44" cabinet at the parking lot sale. It has grease on all the ball bearing slides and the casters roll easily, but I haven't loaded it up yet. Has anyone determined if the factory lube is adequate or if I should clean and lube everything with a good grease? :headscrat

Honestly, linear bearings and toolbox slides alike should use a lightweight oil, something to more or less keep the slides clean while providing a thin film of lubrication.

I don't think it is necessary unless you have reason to believe the factory lubrication was not done properly. Mine slide fine. If you do lube, I have heard garage door lube is a good choice.

A lot of people on here don't like "dirty" tools (or chests). If you don't mind go for it. I go nuts with the mystik on just about everything because hey, it's cheap and I don't want to do it every week. But it will make a mess.

Thanks for all the replies! Since no one has reported a bad experience with the factory lubrication, I guess I'll leave well enough alone.
