They haven't complained about it. I'm sure if they had issues, they wouldn't use them, as they're only 200' from $1000 cherry guns.

I bought one several years ago when I started building my FFR Roadster (cobra.) Not only did it pull all the rivets in my car, I loaned it to three other builders so they could use it.

Just curious, what do you guys use rivets for anymore? And what do you use SO MANY rivets on that you need a pneumatic riveter for?

I have a manual pop rivet gun but frankly, I've never used it.

Let me see you set a 1/4" rivet in a door window regulator by hand.

Hey, it wasn't a challenge, chillax.:)

A window regulator? I can't think of one I've even seen since I used to have crappy steel casement windows and they didn't have rivets in them.

I mean a window regulator inside a car door. Many are riveted into the door.

basic rules for pop rivets: the tighter you pull, the stronger they are. pneumatic guns are always pull harder than by hand. we use a lot of them on aluminum and carbon panels on race cars, .

I built a utility trailer and riveted the aluminum panels to the steel frame (with rubber strips in between). I used the attached riveter for the roughly 200 rivets. It was a lot easier than using screws and resulted in a very professional look. Based on what I've read in this thread I wish I had used an air powerered riveter.

I bought the cheaper one in August. Actually, I bought two in case the first one took a **** in the middle of the job.
I pulled around 4000 rivets with it over the weekend and only had to adjust it a few times (maybe every 1000 rivets or so.) For some reason, it didn't shoot the mandrels out the back and they would just drop out the front, but it was a minor inconvenience.

I returned the 2nd riveter on Monday.

We don't have Harbor Freight (or its discount coupons!) in Canada. :( Princess Auto has the same basic unit for about $65.

BTW ... here's another "rivet" project. Except for the stand which was welded together, this is basically galvanized sheet metal and rivets ... and a few tubes of silicone sealer. :)

If you own a snowmobile its almost a mandatory tool to have, I dont know what I would do without my pneumatic riveter. I got mine from Summit Racing and love it.

I use mine for a lot of random things as well. Some guys dont think about a rivet but once you use them a lot you will find perfect applications for them.

I have the one that was 39 or so five years ago. I have done thousands of rivets with it. I have had to take it apart twice I think to clean the jaws.

I use it for race car bodies. I would guess there are about 100 or so rivets in each car.

Here's what I use for 1/4 inch door regulator rivits. Sometimes you need the forward facing long nosepiece to fit in certain doors. Sounds like the HF one works pretty good. Something to spend a 20 off coupon on since all the big ticket items are excluded now.

While not a HF riveter we use one to build aluminum dirt track bodies and interiors my son did not want to spend 50 bucks on an air riveter till we started on his race car then I handed him the hand riveter he popped 2 by hand and picked up phone and ordered an air riveter now he flips out if we can not find it in shop it is a must have tool in my opinion.

I am building a 2 person aircraft called the Sonex from plans. It uses about 9500 pull rivets in its construction. These are structural stainless steel pulled rivets, not the cheap hardware store ones. I bought one of the harbor freight rivet guns when I started for $35 on sale. I am now around 7000 rivets in and it still pulls great. If you have trouble with them, a few things to check. First make sure that the oil level in it is correct. Second, sometimes the nose piece that holds the two wedge shaped teeth that grabs the rivet works loose. You will know it is happening when the rivet gun pulls the rivet but won't eject the stem. Just open the nose cone, tighten the nut, and you are back in business. Also, play with the air pressure you feed the gun. I find that 60psi works well. If I go all the way up to 90psi I sometimes get smiley faces around the rivets from the gun pulling a little too hard too quickly. In any case, the gun is a great deal.

PS: The HF Air Rivet Gun for the WIN!!! I had to update my snowmobile tunnel from the curved failure of a design to the correct one. I wanted to do it myself. This is what it looked like with everything removed ready for the new rear tunnel section.
