Hi all,
Thinking about picking up a HF air saw and was wonder if you can use other brand names in them?
I know the quality is not the best, but I "may" only need it for one job. I'm cutting part of the floor board out of a 64 chevelle.
Thanks,
Jerry

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I had one, it would lock up as soon as the blade touched anything I tried cutting, wood included, I didn't bother returning it, its somewhere in the upper UP with a .308 hole thru it. ( I save **** that is headache that I had to replace and use them as twrgets for my aggression).

I suggest trying Florida Pneumatic, I ended up buying the IR unit and both of Matco's air saws.

I had the same luck as TheGrooveking with my HF air body saw. I would not cut anything without stalling.

I've had two HF air saws over about 16 yrs now, the first one lasted me about 10 of those, the second I have had ever since and it works fine. You need to oil them regularly and use a 3/8" hose with lots of air or they will starve/bog down. I can not count the rear decks and door panels I have butchered with them. YMMV :3gears:

I have one in my toolbox. It has the same problem as the others. When it works it instantly stops if it touches anything that needs to be sawed. I only paid $5.00 for it, but its worth much less. Look on Amazon for an IR or CP. They work.

I bought one at a local used tool store a while back. I needed something that could fit inside the spring perch bushing on my Model A, and make a slice in the worn old bushing so I could get it out. It did work for that little job, but I haven't had a reason to use it since.

I bought one thirty years ago and it's still working. It will stall from time to time but overall its good. To answer the question, yes, other brand blades will work with it.

I have one. It cuts pretty slow, I don't use it at all. I like a battery sawzall better. Ryobi works well, get the Lithium+ batteries. Plus it makes an AWESOME tool for a junk yard run.

I mostly use the plasma when I can, its one of my favorites. I bought mine in 2001, still going strong. Bottom shelf on the cart pictured...

Yeah I know... a bit more than the HF saw...

Similar experience here, mine will just "stall" even without being in a cut. You have to bump the blade to get the piston to turn over, then it'll cut for a bit but stalls frequently. Royal pain in the ***. This is definitely one of those deals where you should go for a more quality unit.

Mine is useless. Binds just looking at a floor pan.

Concept still intrigues me, so I'm looking for experiences with other brands.

Like Zeke, I bought one on sale... Later found that didn't work... Thought I got a bad one, so, bought another ... Now I have 2 bad ones!
Is it an air volume issue?

Mine couldn't even handle cutting one post on my plastic grill on my truck right out of the box... took more satisfaction spiking it on my garage floor than returning it!

I had one that worked OK. It was on sale and did the trick but it broke after a few uses. I ended up buying a Porter Cable as a replacement and it is much better.
