I bought two. One has switch problems (?). It goes out frequently and randomly. Comes back on with the switch only to turn off at the most inconvenient time. I need to hurry up and replace it. It's annoying.

Used mine last week while replacing my trucks front rotors and brake calipers. When I was done bleeding the brakes I took the truck out for a test.

Yep, I left it in the wheel well and when I turned the tire it knocked it down on the ground and I ran over the light with the back tire leaving and ran over it again with the front tire when I came back.

Picked it up and it works perfectly. Only damage was a couple small nicks in one side edge of the thin lighted part.

Figure it deserves a PASS.

It's on sale through 7/31

$19.99 with coupon 33760378

For in-store purchase, are you all just providing the coupon code number? Or do you need a physical or email version of the actual coupon?

I just bought one and got the rechargable batteries off amazon (with a charger). It's more economical in the long run.

Far more convenient too, I got 2 lights but using together some times so having 2 more batteries to pop straight in makes them last all day, even a long one lol & no need put up with dimmer light in effort drag out another 30 minutes to an hour use .

....every guy with a flea market table and half a brain is buying them up at $19 and reselling them for $35-$40....

I hit the big local flea market here every weekend, sometimes twice a week. Haven't see one yet. Ad there is literally a guy there that just resells Harbor Freight stuff.

I’ve been pondering one of these. How do you like it?
($30 underhood light)

I like the price. The light seems like it should be brighter, but it is definitely better than what I already have.

....10 gals of hydraulic fluid in a tub....

...My Braun fell, of course, into the fluid. ..

I forgot it under there and drove the 5 Miles ..... it was still attached

I doubt it will ever rust.
This is awesome. Dropped mine on the concrete first night I had it, not a scratch, works great to this day.

both of mine are working fine, and they have been dropped on the concrete and showered with welding and grinder sparks, no issues.
Add me to the light vs concrete crew, with a still-working light.

Harbor Freight has been harbor freighted:

Real nice:

And of course the $15 amazon version of the Astro:

Harbor Freight has been harbor freighted:
it seems like the OEM has been selling some very close variations under different brands

  • Advance Auto has OEM TOOLS branded version (google OEM TOOLS 24696)that has 11 leds on the bar and a light where the usb plug is located/runs 3AAA
  • OEMTOOLS 24648 Modular Work Light appears to be a recharable like the HF one but you can remove the head(that has uv included!) and screw on other light heads including a torch head and a flex head
  • Astro Pneumatic Tool 35SLB also is virtually identical but two heads only ..Camo edition is also available

Can anyone point me to the 18650 batteries you are using with good success? I've been using these from Amazon, and while the HF light has been great, these batteries don't hold a charge very long.

I have the HF braun lights and love them. I also bought the alternative one I listed above:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FCZKCXJ/?tag=atomicindus08-20

It's ok... for the car. folds up nice, is super bright, very compact. I'll keep it in the car. The downfall is the magnet on the bottom is weak, and it does not take an 18650 as I had hoped. The bright red LEDs are nice, but I doubt I will ever use it.

Just an FYI, while the thread is always helpful, if you sign up for them by email you probably would have had that and others as you go to visit already. Don't forget to research your freebies.

Another way to get the best, most current deal is to check the Harbor Freight coupon data base website. Simply type in the item number or item description and instantly find the best coupon for that item.

As for this particular item, the Braun Slim Light..... I have three of them and I think they are pretty good. They are fairly well made, very bright, rechargeable and have a decent magnet. The only complaint is the switch seems to be a little fragile. No trouble with any of my lights yet and after using them for a few weeks I can say that I am very happy with their performance..... ESPECIALLY for $19.99 each. I now have three usable lights for roughly the price of one "name brand" slim light.

I never really had the need to buy a second or third one after I got the spare batteries and charger, seeing as you can just take the light anywhere you need it. I had thought about buying a second one though before I got the charger and stuff but once I got it the added benefit was that I had another cheap chinese LED flashlight from Anker, which is big on Amazon and they used a cartridge that uses 3 AAA batteries but the batteries kept dying so it just worked out that the battery cells that came with that charger also worked on it. I ended up having a spare battery on the charger and I can always swap between one device or the other.

I got a second and third slim light because I use them for more than just working on cars/trucks/equipment. I also use them for lighting photography and video so having more than one at the same time is very handy.

Makes good sense. In my case I was just laying under dashes of cars so any more than one probably would have blinded me, lol.

The switch on mine went bad also. At first I thought that it meant that the battery was getting low, but now it doesn't work at all. I have had it for a few months, but haven't used it that much.

How long was the warranty? Are there any easy fixes?

If you haven't had any trouble, why do you say that the switch seems fragile? Mine was erratic and finally failed.

Because I haven't had any trouble. The switch has worked every time, it has never failed. However, it seems fragile.... meaning the push button itself feels a bit lose like maybe it could fall off eventually, but it hasn't.

Thanks for the reply. Mine doesn't feel loose, but just now I pushed it back and forth and managed to get it to light up. Hope it keeps working, because I can adjust the direction of the light much easier than I can with my much more expensive Astro light.

Thanks for the reply. Strangely enough, mine also works by pressing at 4 o'clock, but without any side pressure. For now, it is consistent.

I also would be interested in finding out if anyone has a more permanent fix.

Latest development: Mine conked out even after I had charged it for hours. However, I noticed that it would turn on while I had it charging. I thought that indicated that the battery was bad, so I ordered some from Amazon. They haven't come yet, but now it works anytime I turn it on. Now I suspect that if you let it completely discharge, it goes out of whack for a while, even if it has been recharged. After a while it seems to settle down and work ok again.

After about 6 months, my light has developed an issue with the switch. I went to use it and it would not turn on. I figured out by rotating the little switch button ever so slightly and trying to turn the light on that eventually I get to a spot where it will work. Once I found this spot I also figured out that if I place pressure on the left side of the button while pressing it on the lower right side(4 o'clock position) I can get the light to turn on pretty much every time - I taped over the button to hold it in this specific position. I assume the button has a membrane underneath it and it has shifted, worn, or something. Once I get another light, I might try to take this one apart to make a more permanent fix. I suggest anyone with a non-working light give my method a try. It's annoying as **** to get it to work, but if you do, you at least have a somewhat usable light again. :p123

Has anyone disassembled one of these yet?

Thanks for the tip, i reassembled my light and it actually turned on.I cant get it to turn off, but i know now it's a switch problem.

It's the batteries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just as I suspected, I replaced the original battery with a new INR 18650 that I got from Amazon and the light works perfectly. :)
