I've been using mine the last few days, and I had to charge it a few nights ago.
Honestly, I didn't use it very long. Had to charge it again tonight.
Are the batteries that come with these not too good or something?
Correct, they ****. I invested in a good LG battery and all is well. Samsung or Panasonic will probably work too.

This exactly what we done with a bunch of these lights being used by 2 mechanics.
quality 2500 to 3000mah give terrific run times beating any other option at 4 times the cost.
I used 2 for under hood lighting on the road and worked great in use and being easy carry.
you don't care if run them over or loose them and light output is fine even professionally.
button switch and twist/flex joint weakest points, usb port probably issue if not charging offboard .
Great for 19-20 bucks price point.
You can find them unbranded, no cell and no charge port for 12 bucks.
So do we have a winner as to the best battery to replace these with? Kind of ***** to pay $20-25.00 for the light and have to buy a 15-20.00 battery, but this one I have don't seem to be any good anymore.

This happens with two of mine as well. does come back on though, both are old so no warranty. also notice that the batts don't last as long even fully charged so will look into better batts for them. all in all they work for me as a diyer plus I used coupons so the price was right,
Dio Fan, LOL.........Cool handle. My last name is Diodati................
Mine has seen VERY LITTLE use; battery does not last well at all!

I guess winner is what you find available in reputable quality at the time for sensible coin, I have an electronics shop fairly local and they have the cells at times in reputable brands such as LG Sony Samsung Panasonic Sanyo, vape shops be an option too.
Any larger capacity good brand cell is going be a step in right direction .

I just ordered this 18650 3500mAh battery for my Braun Light and it seems to match the needed specs: https://www.epochbatteries.com/coll...och-18650-3500mah-8a-usb-rechargeable-battery

Might be a good option for those searching.

I'll update after I try it out. Hopefully will be here in 3-5 days.
How did those work out for you?
Is that one battery or two?

EDIT, One Battery it is

It was one battery. It worked great! I haven't run it to failure since I got the new battery but I had no problems with just dropping it in and going.

Great, Thanks,
I want to ask you, or any of you guys in the know, one 18650 battery says 3500 MAH 8 A
and another says 18650 battery says 3500 MAH 10 A
What is the difference in the two?

I went ahead and ordered 2 of these.
Will these be ok sitting on a shelf, or do I need to charge them once in a while?

I got them here though, $26.00 total shipped for two of them.

This light will be on-sale again next week during their "sidewalk sale". It starts Monday for inside track club members, and either Wed, or Thurs for everyone else. (cant remember which day) It think the price will be $21.99, if I remember correctly.

The 8A and 10A are max discharge rates .
For LED torch not important factor ...

2200 but likely less in reality .
I use samsung 30Q series in mine . 2 of them do me all day in the auto shop .
Only $5.99 each. Those are un-protected though; does it really matter?

ideally protected if using inbuilt light charging , wouldn't want be charging unprotected cells in the torch .
buying batteries online is a real gamble ...

Yup.. it's fully charged now.. only thing that turns on is the tip.. :dunno:
I'll throw it in my work van and keep it with for the next time I pass a HF..

I'd probably pick up another one anyway if I can actually find them in a store.

As far as I can tell from the pictures, this isn't a copy of the Astro pneumatic 31sl light, it IS the Astro light....
I know your post is 4 years old, But if this happens to you again, or anyone of course, just call HF customer service,
and they will send you another one free!

Samsung 30Q's can be found in any vape shop for around 5 bux. Sometimes online distros like illumn.com or 18650batteries.com will be even cheaper. I've been vaping for a decade now and they are the best bang for bux I've ever found.

IDT those are protected though. If you have an external "smart charger" I wouldn't worry about the charging side of it, but the protected batteries also shut them self's down when the bat. goes below a certain voltage. My understanding is if you run these batteries down into the ground, it ruins the battery. I could be wrong though. Maybe there is shut down protection in the lights PCB?

Some interesting design points such as the hook.
Would imagine build quality and light output quality be lacking but that just judging on price and reviews .
Other downside with those is no idea how easy pull apart for a cell replacement .
If you already got a braun get a decent cell for it and see how the improved run time works for you .
Original batteries in ones I purchased seemed fairly decent but for sure parts sourcing will change even more so due to pandemic & war so battery spec/quality could be drastically different pending on era of production/purchase .
a big capacity cell transforms this lights run times and if you really like this style light having 2 of them or 2 cells or both (spare light and cells, I like using 2 lights on the job in many scenarios) means you never need be in the dark .
Don't get me wrong these lights not perfect, switch and durability of drop and impact strength not great but they working fairly decent for me in daily autoshop use and works out pretty cost effective vs some more pro brand options .
Astro lights are pretty tough but you leave one under the car, in pull-a-part yard or drive over it or mess it up with cutting or weld spatter you got part with serious coin.
With these I got 2 in the office spares drawer and any accident or loss is like 20bucks and possibly get some spare parts from busted ones .

Mrb is right on. I suffered for many months with the original batteries, then decided I had nothing to lose and ordered several LG. Now the light is useful, although I wish it were smaller for all the confined places one can work in

Yeah, it's only 400 Lumens

No I don't think you can take it apart easily :(
Yes, I have a braun, two actually, I have batteries coming. (they have the micro usb built right into the battery)

I like the concept of the dr.prepare one.
Looks very usable design for automotive work
certainly good diy guy light and likely find it cheaper too .
I had non jointed versions of those and while light output decent plastic quality is rock bottom as is components generally plus hard wired cell .
18650 with a usb port is useful concept, they 5mm long than standard so hopefully that not an issue.
Update us on how they fit and average run times full brightness .

Oh 5mm longer, I hope they fit. No free return like Amazon.
This one looks like a Harbor Freight clone for $18.00.
Base unscrews like the HF one too.

Oh that's right.
Good to know.
You were the one that told me about these.
Interesting article here you may want to read.
But I think we'll be okay with these protected batteries.

Not new news, but he also verifies the battery in the harbor freight Braun light does have the protection circuit

I didn't see it on the website, but do these batteries that have the built in charge port, have an LED light to indicate full charge?
EDIT
Yes, they come with a red LED when charging. IDK if it goes out or turns green?
They give you a nice little case when you buy two.

I have one of these charging on a phone charger for a few hour's already.
Battery is warm, and still has the red light.
Is this normal?
