HF Compressor broke before I could even use it

About 2 weeks ago I bought the 29g oiled compressor from HF (Central Pneumatic), spent the past week, getting it set up, buying and returning stop valves, 1/4" piping from specialty stores for my right dual line set up, setting up the lines, (didn't even mount them on the walls yet). And after making sure there were 0 leaks, today I go to turn it on to rotate the tires.

Doesn't start up, didn't blow a fuse, no humming no click no nothing. Me and my dad take off the cover to the pressure switch, plug it in, and push down on the wires so they touch, and it starts right up.

Apparently when the switch is pushed up it doesn't push whatever correctly, hence the wires don't touch and it doesn't get power.

called HF customer service, I could have a replacement 'pressure switch' mailed to me by December 1st (on backorder, I wonder why) :headscrat

Or I could borrow a friends truck, lug it up two flights of stairs, bring it back and argue for an exchange, then bring it back and lug it down two more flights of stairs.

Anyone have a fix for this problem?

Thanks for any help or tips! and thanks HF, for making me fix your garbage straight out of the box:shocking:

HF guarantees everything that's a "powered" device for 90 days. I'd haul that sucker in and get a new 'un. The labor required to return it is on you.

Unless you are going to return it for a refund I would suggest that you go out and buy a quality pressure switch. The next one will be of questionable quality also.

You could also try to find the pressure switch elsewhere. I'm sure HF used dirt cheap standard parts.

Watch out for that first image, gives me an error.

Second image appears to be a tape measure, seems to be working fine. Seriously, whats the outside of the box got to do with what might be an appropriate replacement?

Anything with the right pressure limits and power capacity should be fine.

First photo is of the box next to a ruler for size, and second is the internals. I dont know anything about this, aka why I posted internal and external. :dunno:

Take off your pressure switch, and go to HF.
Buy a new 29G compressor. Swap the switches in the parking lot, and return the "new" compressor.

I understand what you're saying about it being a PIA to return the compressor.

These switches are pretty simply. I'd just inspect it closely and see if you see the problem. It could be miss adjusted from the factory. (cut in pressure)

If you can't see anything obvious them take it off and go to the store and talk to the manager and ask them to swap the switch with a floor model. (they'll likely do that to avoid a full return).

Other then that it's either return the compressor, wait 2 months, or buy a new switch. (I think Ace Hardware probably has them)

P.S. If you buy a new (non OEM) pressure switch connecting the unloader valve could be a PIA. The unloader line fittings could be non standard.

Heres a photo of the inside of it. Any recommendations on one to buy?

I'd rather not lug it back to the store if it's just going to go again.

EDIT: Or anyone have any fix ideas? I can't see how it could 'break' without ever using it beside to check the pressure'.

Thanks!

You'll still have to undo the packaging whether at the store or at home.

My point was I'd rather not unbox it in the parking lot just to bring it back inside, if I could just buy a replacement or find a fix for my problem

No, tell the store manager to swap the switch you take in.

You'd be crazy to buy a new compressor, uncrate it, do the organ transplant in the parking lot and then return it.

If the store manager is reluctant then hint that you may execute Plan B.

To the OP-

Well, it sounds like you're in a tough spot, but I wouldn't bother hauling it back in to HF unless you want to upgrade to another model. You can either wait for the new switch to arrive or buy a new switch. Perhaps HF customer service could hook you up with a partial refund to help cove the cost of a new switch?

I bought the 13-drawer HF box and it had a bad wheel. I called the customer service number and had a new wheel in about 6 days. I assumed I'd have to haul it back to the store and it would be a huge hassle. But, I was pleasantly surprised by the customer service.

Newer style CONDOR switch

I have the previous style of CONDOR switch and I hated it bc of poor quality plastic cover but they got it right this time.

Will this work right onto my compressor? Will i be able to just unscrew the valve / wiring and put this one in it's place?

Sorry, I know nothing about this unfortunately :(
