Did you see the inventory online somehow or was it on the in store computer?
In store on a register. Warehouse inventory I "think" they pulled up on the PC in the office, but the request form was a duplicated copy on a clipboard with dozens of other filled out sheets.
Regardless of what replaces the Earthquake tools it will be months before we have a decent idea of quality or reliability. Performance should be obvious out of the box, same for price, which I doubt will EVER be this low.

Noticed this morning, Earthquake is Made in Taiwan.

Well used the 3/8" Aircat a little today. So far every (car) lugnut I tried to take off it did it. But one car, Ford fusion, the Cat took the lug nuts off,
so I tried The earthquake, and it took them off too.......................
So I torqued them down with a 100 ft lbs torque stick and my IR 2135TI 1/2"
and then tried the Earthquake and it would not budge.
Over to the Air Cat, and it Zipped it right off.
Still, not hate'n the Earthquake, still a nice little gun for other things.
Caliper bolts, ****** pans, exhaust clamps,
Tried the Air Cat on the Caliper anchor bolts (Pad Holder) on a 06 2500
GMC, were original rotors, wouldn't break it loose, we tried my buddies
Snap on snap on mg31, it would not break them.
In fairness though, those things were cranked on and had loc tite on them.
MY IR 2135TI with an Impact swivel and a short Snap on Impact(21mm) would not break it loose either!!
Had to use the short 21 MM right on the R 2135TI with out the swivel.
Thinking the little Air Cat will come home and the Earthquake will stay at work. Can always use the 1/2" on a lot of stuff the Earthquake 3/8" won't handle.
just for clarification, all the above mentions of the "earthquake" impact is regard to the 3/8" drive or the 1/2" drive? Or both? (and if so, which at which point?)
Sorry, Yes, everything was 3/8" drive.
The Air cat and the Earthquake both = 3/8" drive.
The only 1/2" drive in the above scenario, was the IR 2135TI that I used to tighten the Fusion wheel with the 100 lb. torque stick.
ok, thanks for clarifying. i guess now i'm not surprised about your results. the 3/8" Earthquake isn't as powerful relative to it's competition; nonetheless i think it is good for it's money.
Yes it is, Don't know if I said it here, I named it the Baby Zip gun. Yeah, not as powerful as the Air Cat, but still a handy tool for other things.
I think the 1/2" Earthquake impact is something that is more comparable to it's competition and i would be more surprised if the 1/2" EQ was too weak in some of your simple tests (lug nuts).
Yes, The 1/2" Earth Quake Is the gun I have at home, and has loosened everything I have thrown at it. , Axle nuts, Lug nuts. Have not used it a whole lot, but it is a quiet gun too.
I sent my 1st 1/2" Earth quake back, I thought there was something wrong with it, it just didn't have that "ballsy" sound to it. I guess it don't always hold true, but I guess sometimes we associate loud with power.
Still might take it to work some day and see if it will break loose a dump truck wheel. (475 ft.lb.)
So is the Earthquake way under rated on the torque or is the Aircat way over rated on the torque with there ratings even though it seems that the aircat had a little more power?

I still don't care, I paid $39 for my 3/8" earthquake![]()

wtff??? when did this happen? i bought one on friday and it was 90 with a 20 coupon............
Noticed this morning, Earthquake is Made in Taiwan.
Believe me, I think that tool is first rate even at $100 dollars. I just think comparing the two together in a torque war is a little unfair with a rated max torque difference of 300 Ft Lbs.
One is made in Taiwan and the other is assembled in the USA with Taiwan parts and they are both very good guns.

If I am doing Lug Nuts on a car, I would not be using a 3/8 impact but would be using the 1/2 inch instead.
Anyways, tomorrow is the big day and hope mine is in the shipment that it was supposed to be in at my local HF.....

Maybe so, just wanted to see if the Air Cat had more balls.
I agree, it was not my intention to trash or diss the Earthquake gun, again, just wanted to see if the Air Cat had more balls.
Perhaps I should have posted my findings in a new thread, maybe in the Product and Vendor Reviews forum.
So Do/Would I. again, just seeing what the Air Cat would do.
Hope you get it too.![]()
OK, in all fairness. I think we are comparing apples and oranges in rated torque and price. The Aircat cost normally around $175 dollars and has a reported working torque of 350 Ft Lbs and a max torque of 500 Ft lbs which I find hard to believe for a 3/8 air impact.
The 3/8 Earthquake air impact has a reported 160 Ft Lbs working torque and 200 Ft Lbs maximum Torque rating. It cost $89 new and is at $49 with the clearance going on.
So is the Earthquake way under rated on the torque or is the Aircat way over rated on the torque with there ratings even though it seems that the aircat had a little more power?
In no way I was trying to pound on you. I am curious on just how much the torque difference is from what you have experienced between the two and do you think the Aircat puts a honest 350 ft lbs.
Went to another HF and they only have 1/4 earthquake ratchet left. Try to buy with with 20% coupon but the lady said coupon can not be used on clearance item. She said management is very strict on that policy now. Anybody run into this problem lately?

...To put it in numbers, it's kind of hard to say,
Just giving the comparison is all I could think of.
The Air Cat putting out an Honest 350 ft lbs? I have to probably say no.
Wish we had some kind of tool to measure the torque.
I did not know the Air Cat 3/8" usually went for around$175.00.
OK Yeah, it is $179.99, & $8.87shipping at Northern Tool, So I guess I got a pretty good price.
I don't know, sort of decided on impulse.
LOL, "Walmart" is $200.00, but it's really sold by "Tool King"

you think for all the people who have warranties on the current eq stuff they will give them the new line up in they need it replaced?
thats what I was told when i purchased one a few days ago. guy behind the counter said someone came in earlier this morning with an old 4gal air compressor and they didn't haven anything comparable anymore and upgraded him to a 20gal.
I went to HF today to expect the worse on them not having my special ordered 3/8 EQ impact being there today, but is was there. He gave me the box and I picked up a few other things and went to the checkout stand and was going to use the 20% on something else and she goes wouldn't you rather put it on the impact instead? I said yes go ahead and I got the 3/8 EQ for around $39
.
I really like the look of this thing. It is nice and small and very well built and about maybe 1/3rd the size of the 1/2 model I have.
I am very glad that it came in and now the collection is complete....
