Update, I got my answer its 94" if anyone ever searches this. So never mind ;)

By chance can anyone confirm the inside dimension (clearance) of a Harbor Freight gantry crane. Today is the last day for 30% off and I just happen to need one for kind of a one time project but its got to clear the width of my trailer. The spec says its 128" overall but looking at their pictures over the bed of a regular full size single wheel pick-up....I'm doubting their spec.

Much appreciated, Cam

Thanks M, much appreciated. Looks like they'll be some modding straight out of the box to do what I need.

@LXCam A YouTube user measured 98" between uprights? :dunno: Here's a link to another YouTuber that replaced the top beam with a longer one to give a longer span Harbor Freight Gantry Crane Mods

Also, FYI the trolley is not included as some purchasers were disappointed to find out.
Thanks D, I need a dead minimum of 102” since my bobcat trailer is just a tick under 8’6”. A new beam wouldn’t be a big deal.

Pretty sure that 30% off coupon doesn't apply to any high-dollar items...but I may be wrong.

Sure doesn't which I figured out this morning AFTER asking the question and then went to order.

Apparently ol' Cam's eyesight goes to **** after 10pm....who'd have known.

I changed the 5" beam on my HF crane to a 6", slightly wider than original beam. Hold-downs can be moved anywhere along the beam plus added better triangle braces - the new beam is 12' long, so inside posts can be up to a little over 10'.

By upping the beam cross-section I didn't need to lower the weight limit (probably)

Having some computer probs, hopefully I can find some pics...

Got lucky; the diagonals are spaced far enough apart for either a hand trolley or a 1 ton hoist to fit between braces; they can also be unbolted if I ever need to lower the crane beam far enough to interfere with lower half of the posts - HTH... Steve

Excellent approach @BukitCase. I was mulling over the same basic idea of removable dia bracing so I could drop the top down as low as possible too. You did a clean job on that. (y)

Nice mods. I plan on adding some outriggers to mine so it doesn't try to tip over when I lift the bed & cab off the smashed truck. Damned sloped driveway.

The trolley looks like a dog face with a tongue hanging out.

Why not ? You can always find something for less than $10. I walked out with an armful of mover's blankets.
Well it just was sooo much funner approving time cards, uploading training certifications some guys got over the last couple weeks and putting together a corporate business plan for my division that had a drop dead due date of last Tuesday…

It just didn’t seem like saving $9 could top it 😂

Guys, thanks for the kind words; My next mod (eventually) for the crane is to get rid of the hokey "cam-like" height adjustments - mine worked exactly ONCE, then froze up - the hole spacing on the posts is (IIRC) 6", so you can get 3 holes of lift before needing another movement (and another anchor point) but at least you could get the thing to actually MOVE...

My only "drawings" of this mod are still just in my head, sorry - Steve

I picked up the HF gantry crane a couple years ago. I use it WAY more than I even thought I would. One thing to note, it won't fit around a 8'6" wide trailer. I ended up modifying mine and making new holes on the I-beam so I had a total of like 8'8". It's tight, but I get it around wide trailers now.
