HF mover's dollies

I have added 2x4's and plywood (3/4") to the top to move a lathe and parts of a milling machine with good success. They are very sturdy, and the best part is that they are cheap enough so that if you break one, which is tough, you can toss it away and buy another for $10.

Have 2 I use regularly, also took 1 at one point and cut it in half bolting the 2 halfs to 4x4's covered in carpet and put a jetski on it while I rebuilt the ski and tore down the trailer and rebuilt it too... Let me say it worked GREAT!

I took two of the smaller ones and put 3/4" OSB on the top and then put jack stands on those for when I had dropped the front suspension on one car I was taking apart before scrapping. Granted, wasn't much weight but was very convenient to roll around as those wheel dolleys don't work when you have no wheels.

Speaking of wheel dollies that don't work when you have no wheels, I just tack welded jack stands on some dollies.

I picked up a pair of the mini-dollies today. No particular need for them, but they were on sale.

First thing I did was tighten the nuts. ALL of them were loose, some of them 4-8 turns loose, and three of them only finger tight. Might be why people were losing the nuts on them. The right one I tightened, the left I had not touched.

There is a lock washer on them, so maybe tightened they will stay on.

Not sure they would really hold 1000 pounds each, but they seemed pretty decent.

Worth another look anyway - maybe newer models look less "sad" than the last one, bottom of the barrel unit I observed. Iv'e done some other reading, and seems that cleaning and lubing the ball bearings (Texan: "ball bear-uns" ) help a lot. If the balls don't fall out.

Chris, what you might have seen is what was left after every picked them over, kinda like going to the lumberyard and trying to find something in a picked over 2x4 stack.

I can almost guarantee that if you use one (after filling the center) to set a spare block or short block on and leave it there, the first time you have to move that block out of your way, you'll think to yourself, $8 well spent.

I put my trans am on them in winter. They are always in use some way or another. I dont like buying them but there isnt a good alternative.

I put Loctite on them when I get them, never had any problems.

I like to use them for pulling and re-building a car rear end. Just lift the car and set it on the jack stands, unbolt everything and slide it out to work on it easier. Then slide it back in. I just used zip ties to hold the jack stands to the rollers.

Same here! Saw the thread the other night, was in the store yesterday and said what the hell......
Good tip on the loose hardware, I could see in mine some of the locks weren't compressed. Watch the overtightening, HF stuff doesn't exactly use quality grade hardware.
