If you buy one top chest and one bottom you could swap out the thick one on top and put 2 small ones from bottom in its place. Now the deep drawers with double slide there always one set not riveted in. When swap drawers you have to drill out rivets where putting deep drawer and river set where putting single drawer. You can’t do all deep in bottom as there are 7 drawers and narrow to deep is 2 to 1. I think by doing your idea would make it more usable.

The height to the top is 42". The depth is 30". It works for me, but may need to be lowered a tad down the road. The corner was sort of perfect for the 3 boxes. It fit just right at almost 10'. Again, I appreciate those who paved the road before me. I'm not the best welder, but learning as I continue to do projects.

Hi folks. I used to browse this thread quite often, then got out of the habit, but now I am wondering what I've missed. This morning, I went into my local Harbor Freight and waked right into a huge tool box setup, with "ion" nameplates. I looked it over fairly well, and think it is a step up from the normal HF tool boxes.

Tonight I went back 12 pages in this thread and didn't see any mention of the Ion boxes. Are these new, and what do the experts think about them? If nothing else, they have some neat features, that the run-of-the-mill HF boxes don't.

It’s ICON, and yes they are pretty nice, but quite a bit higher than the standard US General boxes.

I have read through this awesome thread and can't seem to find the info in here or much info elsewhere on the forum.
I just got a bunch of free 1.5x1.5x1/8 square steel and I was hoping to replicate this bench idea with this material.
Do you think it would be strong enough for a single 44 HF toolbox bench setup?
I could even add an extra support in the middle of the frame for more strength.
Thoughts?

It'll be fine. 1.5 X 1/8 thick is plenty heavy enough.

I built a ton of stuff out of 1-1/2 and a thinner wall no issues; including a rolling stand that had 2 CI 10" table saws on it...

Does anyone who has the blue boxes also have a color fan chart from any of the big paint manufacturers they would mind doing a match for me? I'm building a custom frame setup for a client and need to prepaint it before the boxes show up in about 3 weeks. I'm also painting a door, so want to find a close blue match to the boxes that I can get in a standard gallon of paint that I'll use to spray the garage door + custom frame in. Not looking for a rattle can type match but a paint code from someone like Benjamin Moore, Kelly Moore, etc.

I want to configure two of the boxes and two drawers into an island. Concept sketches attached.

I want it to be mobile yet have ability to lock it into position. Was thinking of doing something similar to these adjusters but have feet on them instead of wheels. Would retract the feet to land on casters then move, etc.

I found this island type setup with rollers and locks. Not sure I like the outrigger setup for wheels/locks and loss of toe kick space.

Ab0mination those wonderful cabinets regrettably are no longer available. Here in PA there used to be a store that was appropriately named, called Just Cabinets. They were cheap, well made, unfinished pine that I painted. The picture I posted is in a new shop I am currently building (100% because of this forum!) and I am currently looking for additional cabinets similar to the ones I have. If I get anywhere in the search, I will let you know. The lights are cheap 2 foot, 2 “bulb” LED,s from Lowe’s. They are hard wired...no pull strings. I had The same light on an old bench in my attached garage and liked it. In this shop, I set the cabinets a little higher and I am short, so the light is in my eyes slightly. I am going to fashion a shield of some sort just to cover bulbs slightly to rectify that, other wise, I am very pleased. I’ll go grab a few pics for you...

1 to replace each caster is sufficient.

Due to the frame design I used to hold the boxes, I have six leveling feet for two boxes, since they were rated at something like 3000# per leveling foot.
