Installing a range hood. Came w/ typical power cord. Can I locate the GFCI receptacle on the kitchen wall inside the fake chimney?
Would look ugly & red neck to have the cord floating outside of the unit.

Can you provide gfci protection to a standard outlet for the hood from another gfci outlet that's open to view/access?

All junctions /connections have to be accessible, regardless if it is gfci or not

So that goes back to the original question in the OP, how do you wire an island range hood that comes with a plug?

I'll tell you later how mine is....

The chimney is fake & is removable w/o tools. The outlet would be easily accessible, just not visible. No upstream outlets here to convert w/o difficult wall to ceiling to wall runs.

How do you propose to relocate the GFCI?

Some pics please...

Yep. Fully accessible when you remove the hood and disassemble.

😂

Do as I say, not as I do
I went through this when I remodeled.

IIRC I have a single outlet in the "chimney" of my hood. Could not come up with any other way....

Maybe?

I stole the first pic I found online. Mine definitely does not have vents.
Isn't it crazy that there could be a “ventless” hood somewhere like that directs greasy smoke from your stovetop upward to blow out across your white ceiling paint?

I suppose. Mine has a nice 6" duct to a roof vent.

Its a convertible model. Has the vents near the ceiling for ventless using carbon filters. Thought Id try that mode first. Not a fan of another roof breach & either way it doesn't prevent build up. Being a widower theres not much need for it, just wanted to control the smoke from bacon.

Well, that calls for a GFCI with an alarm, or a GFCI breaker. Though to be fair, this has got to be the dumbest requirement for a GCFI after a garage door opener. I'm all for code when it improves safety, but it's pointless here other than to check a box off for an inspector and add a point of failure.

At the day job of new construction, all our hoods are direct wire.

The electrician puts a gfi in the back wall of the cabinet below for the cooktop. This outlet serves the cooktop and the hood.
