I consider a "mess" when there is urine and feces visible after someone uses the facility. Also when someone plugs the toilet up solidly and I have to use a coat hanger to dig out half a roll of toilet paper.

I agree, that is definitely a mess.

Not cool.

I would open up my bathroom if I hired help. No one likes to see another person's skid marks but oh well, life goes on.

We are currently undergoing multiple remodeling projects. I have a porta potty outside as one of the projects is a detached garage that currently does not have running water.

The same guy that painted the garage was painting our basement (therefore aware of the porta potty). One day I went downstairs to the spa bathroom we had installed last year and observed someone had been using the sink to wash paintbrushes and there was paint residue all over the granite and custom cabinets.

Most contractors will treat your home with respect but there are those few bad eggs that mess it up for everyone...

LOL, this is a funny but relevant thread.

I just had the shell of my garage built by a local crew. usually 2 regular crew, sometimes the boss, sometimes a 3rd crewman like when the trusses were put up.

Day one, I told them where there john was on the main floor right inside the side door. I also told them if they prefer to piss in the bushes feel free as it's a remote site and no one will know to care but the john is there for their use.

I also made them coffee nearly every day they were on site. When I wasn't going to be there the pot was ready and all they had to do was push a button. I didn't go to the extent of meals but I would have/should have near the end done a basic bbq. They were polite guys and declined most offerings but I would have gladly done a bbq if I wasn't already committed to being somewhere else. Poor planning on my part.

They were locals, not immigrant type. I have heard horror stories on what some immigrants do in public restrooms like tossing used toilet paper on the floor or in the waste basket. I understand that's due to a plumbing deficiency where they are from. Just glad I don't have to deal with that kind of silliness.

ETA- I did let them hunt the turkeys here, they were pleased at that and went out a few mornings before starting the job.

FYI about toilet use and selling your home. As a relatively new agent I was surprised at the number of clients when looking at homes use the toilets. Especially families with children. If I show 5 homes during an outing, the bathrooms of three houses will get used. So, know that when selling your home.

We fight that with painters. At the last job I spent a good amount of time cleaning up paint slop at the sink in the bathroom that had been offered to us.

Most painters seem to be careless in general. If we aren't vigilant they will leave a mess on the driveway, in sinks, lose hardware, and so on. I used to store parts for later installation onsite in a plastic tote with our company name on it. I found the painters had used the tote to mix paint in. Most of my parts (Including the 50 year old shower trim that the homeowner thought was precious) were found stuffed in various drawers & cabinets in another room. Some we never found, but at least those were replaceable. Ever since then I take parts back to the shop for safe keeping.

My shop is in a detached garage; it has a toilet and sink with hot water.

My landscaper has a key.

I have impressed on him that he and his crew do not need permission to use those facilities, they have a right to use them.

They never make a mess and my house and typically wins a Blue Ribbon at the annual landscape judging.
