well a little update, started to tape and mud the drywall. First time so lets see how it works out......

Went and bought a hawk, 12" mud trowel, corner trowel, fiber tape, mixer for the drill. Have to buy the corner beads soon too.

Also tapped most of the ceiling. Just one spot left but don't want to move everything out of the way on the floor. Been seeing the Chiropractor for the back and it is slowly coming along. At least I can sit now with no pain. Just full steam ahead,........slow

ok here are the new updates I tried to do before,...

for those following along still. I was going to build my cabinets. Home Depot had cabinets on sale for $99/cabinet but now marked down to $59/cabinet. Can't build them for that. Thermofoiled doors/euro hinges/2 shelves. So bought what I needed.

The Quaker State can will be my new garbage can

my M.E.R.V. rolling cart, I added the spacers for all my Plano bins. Both sides are done and will do a drawer on the bottom.

The black countertop is just a scrap piece from work (I make them)

Man I need warm weather. I need to to the sun gods maybe

Hey

What do you think of the $69.00 hd cabinets. I have been looking at the and wondering how they will last. I am more concerned about ripping them down then putting them up. I was by the hd on Whitemud today and they still have some.

hey Scuba, the cabinets are pretty good overall. The ones in the Fort were 59 and not 69 bucks The nailing strip on the top and bottom of the cabinets are about 6" wide. That is great if you have preblocked the walls in behind the drywall, it also increases the strength of the cabinet. The cabinets are made by Fabritec I have not googled them yet but overall just looking at them, they seem ok and the thermofoiled door is nice. Hell come on out and take a look at mine if you want.

I decided on these cabinets cause I can 't build them for that.

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but are you planning on heating the place ?

What did you do to solve your humidity problem and do you think it will come back ? (BTW, humans put out quite a bit of moisture if they are "working up a sweat". A well sealed building won't let that escape.)

Little update,..............

ol wizard, you are right, the garage is sealed tight and the concrete is still venting. The propane heater for temporary use doesn't help either. Trying to get as much done as possible. As for a heater, yes Natural gas 45,000BTU this spring.

Yes Wayne, the cabinets are awesome. even toying around with a set under the TV as a 15" deep X 144" workbench area. I don't like the idea of a set of cabinets in front of the truck when it is parked in there but 15" should be ok. My metal tune-up cabinets more than likely wont be used.

still waiting on warmer weather, should be coming by the end of the week +9 Celcius by Friday. So Friday will be a late night in the garage with the radio and some drywall mud (2nd coat) The propane heater is just making too much moisture. I have sanded the first coat. Have 2 doors up on the storage area.

As for the back, it is MUCH better still the the chiropractor but way better than before.

In a nut shell, back is better, warm weather is coming and I am tired of the cold and snow. Geared up and rested up for some long nights soon. and another 3 weeks of holidays are around the corner WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO

OH also, all the siding/fascia/soffit/siding corners/tools/extra wood and cabinets are on 2- 48"X96"rolling platforms, sweeeeeeet. Now I can work around everything in the way.

well we are on the good side of freezing today and yesterday so I started the drywall compound 2nd coat. I just love sanding in freezing cold and running the bare hand accross cold walls

Note to mental self, next time be sure to install furnace ASAP.

so here are some pictures, try and see past the mess. Well organized mess nonetheless. There are 2 rolling platforms to move the shi,....ahem stuff back and forth. Way easier and faster just to roll it out of the way than slide everything over.

The 2nd coat of compund is on and awaiting drying. after that, some light sanding, touch up coat then primer and then P A I N T !!!!!!!!!! Hopefully this weekend will be some primer/paint action. I have 2 of the storage doors up still have to edge them yet

Well a little more sanding and I will be applying the primer coat tomorrow,Sunday.....HOPEFULLY. Have to buy the primer tomorrow. 2 cans, one for the ceiling and the other tinted for the walls change of color at the last minute. I think with a white ceiling, white walls and white cabinets it will be too much white. going with something warmer on the walls.

The garage looks great! I bought a house last summer that has a detached 24x36, at this point I haven't done much but you've motivated me to start building soffit shelves just like yours and XcYZ's . Thank you for all of the detailed pictures, they've been a great help!

Just reading my post from last night and I think I was little tired!!
Thanks for the info.....I'm re-doing some stuff on the car while trying to build some shelves....it's tough.
I really wanted to empty the garage but I won't be done the car til May.

ok I managed to cut in the ceiling tonight and the ceiling in the storage floor where the recessed lights are. The ceiling was primed Monday and the walls were primed last night. Friday my Sister is coming for a "paintin/music and party. Hopefully we wont be out there too late for her sake but I am on a ball of excitement things seem to be back in full swing.

don't mind the clutter as most of it for for the garage anyhow. It's mostly on rolling platforms so it moves out of the way.

"MAYBE" Sunday will be cabinet installation day

Looking great Hit-by-thunder! Love the way you expanded on XcYZ's idea and took it a bit further with the rod support. I too am contemplating this idea. My ceilings are 10' 6" so I'm just thinking how big I want the soffit/storage to be.

Does it feel like you have made the garage smaller by taking away some of the ceiling? That was my initial concern when I first seen the idea, although I loved it, I was just concerned.

It had exactly the same effect on me! I think it's a size thing, and by that I mean realising that a relatively small space can be just as good as a much larger garage, especially if you only have one car to store inside. It's not the size, it's what you do with it that counts....

I haven't gone with the shelving, purely because I have a room above for storage so I don't think I need it. I am trying to work out a good way to illuminate the benches without the recessed lighting in a shelf. I think I will end up with wall units with lighting hidden under those, but for now I don't have the funds in my 'garage account' to get them!

I hope you get a lot done in your time off work.

well sunday was cabinet day. All cabinets are up (lowers to be done soon) The TV,..... what a pig. Bought the vesa bracket, install the tv cabinet level, installed the bracket level, mount the TV (that was fun in the cabinet) and step back. The TV was out 5/16 of an inch on one side. What the heck????? Took it down rechecked everything, yup, level, figured maybe it didn't sit right in the bracket. Re-installed still crooked,..... put the bracket off level, re-install again, PERFECT!!!! :lol. Started hooking up the surround sound but got late.

Tonight was change the U-joint in the truck so no progress
