No, this is the ****.

If you go to a Mexican restaurant and they don't have this plunger is it really a Mexican restaurant?

So I picked up the Earthquake Ratchet.

It's basically a Makita battery. The Earthquake battery works in the Makita tools, but the Makita does not work in the earthquake. The plastic clips are slightly different so I'm not sure if the Makita battery is contacting inside the Ratchet.

The Earthquake will NOT charge on a Makita charger, but the Makita will charge on the Earthquake, or at it at least appears that way from the light on the Earthquake charger. The Makita charger flashes to indicate a bad battery.

I'm done buying anything from Harbor Freight until they cull all of the junk tools and hardware from their stores.

I'm in a bad mood because I just finished fighting with female HF quick disconnect that won't fit my Milton male fitting. The opening in the HF female fitting is too small.

As long as they carry junk in their lineup, I don't feel like spending time and energy being a beta tester to figure what is good and what is useless in their junk lineup.

Harbor Freight, in general, makesSears look like Snapon.

Finn, I'm sure that HF's president, who lives in a home that makes Trump's look like it's in a slum, is deeply concerned about your negative experience.

UPDATE

I went poking around to take a look at the new stuff and like others I kept thinking how ridiculous it was that there's so many different batteries and chargers, and how limited the line ups were for each line. Then I saw this on the back of the Bauer Drill.

While I'm certainly not running out to buy a whole new line up as I'm quite content with my Milwaukee stuff, it is intriguing and the first I've seen on plans for add on tools.0054b14b43e60f211d962905ca71b7b3.jpg

Only thing at HF worth putting in my car is the red roll 5 drawer cart, Daytona jack and maybe the new ratchet line (snap on copies) they carry

Everything else has either broken immediately or caught fire

All my HF stuff has worked great for me.. but I'm not in the habit of buying a $2 item and expecting it to last long when u beat on it.

I'm skeptical of the 1200 foot pounds claim.

However... a high torque impact wrench has been on my "want" list for a while now...
Read one of the articles on "break away torque" It is in the same category as "peak horse power" , "100 watts of music power", and 6 hp motors running on 120 volts. They are all some form of unsustainable peak power that lasts an instant and makes good advertising copy. That is not to say that the Earthquake does not have a decent amount of power.

I'm really curious to see how DeWalt responds to them using the "20V Max" branding, and the fact that the Hercules batteries are basically direct rip-offs of the DeWalt battery.
DeWalt won a suit a number of years ago just because the other guy's tools were yellow.. It was some low end brand.

I just went to my local HF to get this:

https://www.harborfreight.com/12V-M...iNzkuOTkiLCJwcm9kdWN0X2lk IjoiMTIxOTAifQ==

It is the AC Delco one. Built like a tank. its on sale right now for $79.99. That is less than half of the AC price. They had to get it out of the back as they just received these new cordless tools today. They are setting up new displays tomorrow.
Darn, that looks pretty nice for $80.00.
Wouldn't mind having it, I'm not finding enough side work right now to justify buying it, but it would be nice to have.
Ideally, I'd like to eliminate my compressor all together, except for filling tires of course.

I'm always amused by those that ***** about Harbor freight, but continue to shop there.

Their merchandise smells funny. The store was dirty. The clerk was rude to me. They wouldn't take my coupon. Why do they have two stock numbers?

Kinda reminds me of my ex-wife.

I'll look at it as positive reinforcement :)

Cheapskates always ***** but always go back for the best deal. It's in their nature. They also whine about Wal-Mart but show up there every week when they get paid to buy their groceries. Apparently, they are gluttons for punishment.

You do realize there are different styles of air fittings and not all interchange with each other? Were the Harbor Freight ones listed as being interchangeable with the style of Milton fittings you have?

Otherwise you're complaining that a Ford Engine won't just drop in to your Toyota with no modifications.

Hell, not even all Milton fittings interchange with each other.

I'm sure Makita is happy that the Hercules line looks just like their color scheme. To the casual user they may even think it's a Makita. Hell I had to do a double take when I saw them in stores.

Yes, you can easily find many of the same items sold in Home Depot for more money with the husky name on them.. I really don't get the "junk tools" mindset... it you're going there and buying loose items for a $1.99 or the cheapest ratchet/socket sets they make - why do you blame THEM for buying the cheapest things you can find.. you (or anyone really) have every opportunity to spend more money on choices, and you DECIDED not to. Who's fault was that? Anyone with half a brain and an internet connection can easily separate the good from the bad inside that store within minutes.. hell, there's been an ongoing thread about that very thing on this board for what, years now?

Also - you're aware HF (and every other tool store in the country) sells two different style of air fittings right? They are not all interchangeable...

Anyone get some time with that ratchet yet? One of my techs has been reaming on his for a few weeks in a high volume Ford dealer and he loves it

What's he think on the torque rating? Is it accurate? Not even close?

I believe that is protected under a category called trade dress. John Deere green, etc etc. pretty common.

He thinks it's fairly close to spec. He doesn't have to manually loosen the intake manifold bolts on the Escapes and Focus's which h had to do with his M12.

I'll keep this updated every once in a while with a flat rates thoughts

I think the plural of Focus is Focai

Great to hear that the ratchet is working out well for him. It would be very tempting to get one if Milwaukee wasn't coming out with some new ones soon.

I went on a mission yesterday to find the 3/8" cordless ratchet. https://www.harborfreight.com/12v-m...s-xtreme-torque-ratchet-wrench-kit-63538.html It seems they are in very short supply. I went to two different HFT stores in my area and the store manager explained that they are getting them in very limited numbers. Like a single store may only get 4 and they basically sell out a day within arrival. I ended giving up and then ordering one via online web site. We shall see how that goes.

It did get to try one out a bit in the store. It did have a nice feel and finish looked good on it as well. There are only a handful of online reviews (Youtube) and while I always doubted it would make 60 ft lb of torque it does seem like its comparable to the AC Delco (which seems the most comparable) and to the Milwaukee which is real nice (but I haven't bought into the Milwaukee price of admission with battery costs). I do like Milwaukee's idea of adding an LED to the tool. Everything from cordless screwdrivers to cheap drills have those these days.

The Hercules stuff feels and seems very nice.. but Milwaukee has nothing to fear about the earthquake impacts.. they leave a lot to be desired when seen and held in person.

This thread is at least six years old. I will say that HF quality has improved in that time.

I no longer have an aversion to entering the store.

Good news. I was just sitting here wondering how you felt about Harbor freight.

:)
All the time I find myself answering questions on threads that I later find out are five years old. By that time who cares as the original poster has either solved his problem or died. I'm not saying that these threads should be deleted I'm saying that they should not be able to be resurrected by new responses to them. If you have a new problem make a new post.
In this case, I think dnschmidt had a valid concern about the usefulness of older threads.
