This smells like a possible opportinuty for any GJers that live in Long Beach, Ca. Use the extra junk you have laying around to create the most dangerous contraption you can think of.

LOL When I was like 14-15 yo I got the idea to outdo my grandfather's washing machine motor grinder...

I scrapped one of those old 70's electric lawn mower motors, mounted it to the bench and put a grinding wheel on it. A second after I hit the switch I realized I messed up and got the hell out of there. You should've seen what it did to the wood shelf above it when it came apart.

I'm still trying to think of a use for the motor, table and arm. Might work as a tile saw with a minimum splash guard. Only for small tiles. Or something that would total a nice saw like Hardiboard. Again, some kind of guard.
.
motor isnt tefc.
not rated for 'wet' work.
it's good for a trot line anchor.

Sadly, I have a friend who would have no problem using this and tell us all how dumb we are for wanting all the safety **** on it.

That looks like a later version of an 8-1/2"trim saw I have had for a long time. Someone wore out the original 8-1/2" blade and couldn't find a replacement at HD, so he took the guard off so he could put on a "good" (cheap) Freud blade. Putting a 10" blade on an 8-1/2" saw pretty much guarantees that all you can cut is 1/4" plywood or dowels.

I have that same saw, with a guard. It's a 10". First miter saw I ever bought, probably 25 years ago and it still works just fine. It never had a very good motor brake and it takes an unusually long time for the blade to stop. Unless of course it's embedded in your head or arm.

Hopefully, it get flagged and the seller is forced to remove it. Let's help keep craigslist safe for everyone.

I don't see a reason to flag it. If someone is stupid enough to use that saw as is, then they don't need to be around sharp tools, and hopefully a trip to the ER will help that idea sink in.

That saw comes from long line of persistent "carpenters" . . . .
. . . . . . Stubby, Nubbs, and Stumpy !!! :D

One of the wives tried to use it . . . and now they call her Half-Nose Cyclops !!

As soon as I read Stubby, Nubbs and Stumpy, why did I think of Rhiley the carpenter from "This Old House" ??

Damn I thought it was bad when I was looking for a table saw, all the saws I was finding with no guard, no fence, no miter gauge, no throat plate (all the same machine), and the ad saying it "works great!" Some people should clearly not even be in the same room with a power tool.

I think it's brilliant. You can convert an 8 inch saw to 12 inch for next to nothing. In a pinch it can double as a table saw.

I had a blade fail (MasterForce brand blade) and when I took it off, I realized a bunch of the carbide teeth were just completely missing. Even if you can safely avoid the blade, imagine it throwing carbide teeth at your face at who knows how many FPS. Safety glasses don't help when you take it right up the nose!

The part he forgot to add was 'only getting rid of it because I'm tired of getting sparks/debris to the face'

That would be a great additional to the loan a tool program. If your neighbor comes knocking to borrow your saw, show him that and watch him run like hell

I attended a safety seminar one day and the guy doing a powerpoint presentation had a habit of pointing at the screen. Half of his index finger and his thumb were missing.

Long Beach CA, the sewer by the sea.
naaa it's a Diablo blade.

The little heat expansion marks on the blade match exactly what my diablo blade looks like.

-Nigel

He was teasing saying it's blood red now.

Sure it's a Diablo. Not a bad blade for the price. As I said in the beginning, I'd buy the beast just for the blade if he dropped the price some. Too far away, like $30 in gas far away.

Hopefully, it get flagged and the seller is forced to remove it. Let's help keep craigslist safe for everyone.
Nope, still up. Was updated yesterday.

That thing is 3 wheels and a propulsion motor away from being a Battlebot.
