Homak box from Northern

I thought I would make a post about the Homak top and bottom boxes I got at Northern Tool on black Friday.
I was the first one in the parking lot at 5am, then got in line behind about 4 other people. When the doors opened at 6 I went right to the check out, made my purchase and headed home with the new boxes loaded up in the van.
I found out that Northern only keeps the blue boxes in stock, which was fine because that is what I wanted.
The boxes were well packaged with plastic wrap and strong cardboard. They're heavy, but I was able to manhandle them to get them into the shop.
Both boxes came without the side handles attached. The bottom box has one handle which bolts onto either end with some metric grade 8.8 bolts. They run into threadserts. The top box came with two handles which also attached via threadserts, but this time with stainless metric bolts.
The casters were already attached, but I had to swap them from one end to the other to match up with the side handle. They were attached with metric bolts into threaded holes. I put a dab of Loctite on all of the bolts so I wouldn't have to worry about them loosening up later.
Both boxes came with thin foam drawer liners already installed (which is good because I broke the bank on this purchase). They also came with magnetic drawer labels, which I thought was a nice touch.
So far I am extremely happy with my new boxes. The only thing I don't like is that the deep drawers only have one slider on each side. The drawers have provision for a second slider, so I may check that out in the future. The only problem now is figuring out how I want to load them up (and selling the old ones).

Glad to hear you're happy with it, I've got one coming soon. I've seen them in store, looks like a decent box. Decided to pounce on one myself, but I was too late to get one in-store on Friday... found they had the same pricing on their website, so I bought one there as a "free ship to store" order. The site said it could be up to 10 days, so I'll just have to be patient.

That'll be the hard part. :D

I have had a pair of cabinets, mid secton and top box in the Homak brand for over 20 years. They really are great and they are not ball berring. They glide easy. I use them for all my chisels, carving tools and wood working tools in my cabinet shop.

I still think the HF boxes are the same quality and less expensive. I have a bunch of them and given 5 of them away.

With the BF deal I think I came out ahead pricewise. (I did not pay close attention to the HF black friday deals... was there one for it as well?) Also, I don't like how parts are not available for the HF boxes (slides, keys, etc). Homak sells keys/locks right on their site, and specifically states that slides are replaceable.

I'll snap some more pics today. It is 41" wide and just about 60" tall. Regular price is 399 for the top and 499 for the bottom, it was 599 for both on BF. Homak also has a 5 year warranty.

Worn/broken detents, perhaps a slide that loses a few bearings and no longer works smoothly? Not quite the same, but I've had ball bearing server rails at work come apart. I was just put off by the manual in the HF boxes saying "NO REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE".

Thats a sharp box. I have the same one in black, used in in a hydraulic shop for 2 years and in my current plant for one year. During the year at the plant I am at, the box stressed cracked in several spots, even with an angle iron frame and 7" machine casters. Granted I pushed this box miles across concrete everyday, so, its not the boxes fault, and the cracks are only noticable if I point them out, I do take very good care of it. It is now my home box, and it is perfect for that, I feel its very well made for the money.

Sorry for the late response. I didn't get any details from Homak, other than they are available. I meant to email them back but haven't gotten around to it.
