I'm actually a guy who prefers 2 50" range boxes over a 72 .
2 54's give me better drawers over the 72.
All down to user really in terms of tool volume/size, shop space for box ect.
2 50" range boxes far more flexible on layout and far easier move/transport .
If buying 1 i'd go 72 .

IDK guys, really depends on the OP's needs. 72" great for bench space but the 54" combo has more storage capacity with a smaller footprint. And they're both the same money at $1599.

Rolling into a new shop (Euro imports, BMW/Audi/Merc/Porsche) and will be working there 44 hours a week, I've never worked in a shop like this, but was a mobile (EVT) mechanic for 4 years or so. I know I'll need a box thats able to roll around and hold up to being used constantly but I'm pretty gentle on my stuff, and also pretty good about managing box space and my tools. I'm thinking the 56" might be what I spring for, just because I don't know if I'll absolutely love or hate this, lol. The shop is immaculate and the people seem like awesome people to work for, so I'm hoping it goes well

Homak RS-Pro 72" Tool Box

I will say this....The 54 top drawer (bottom box) does not have dual slides like the 72. I’ll be buying a second set. I’ll have to check the the deep drawers again and can give you an update tomorrow.

Looks like you remembered correctly. They list this on the website.

Kind of disappointing in that regard and makes my choice even harder. I have the money but think 72 might be overkill, but...I dont want single slides on my top drawer :(

Edit; After further Review, they also list the 72 RS pro as only having two slides total on the large top drawer (top right drawer, 50"?)

Actually went ahead and ordered the 54", if the box needs to move I don't wanna push/pull around a 72" box all day long. Not sure how much moving I'll actually be doing with it, but that and the fact that a slightly cheaper box leaves me with more money for tools (Looking at you, WrightGrip wrenches!) I figured its the more sensible choice for now.

If the 54 only has single slides it bit of a cheap out by homak.
with the competition in mid priced boxes you think Homak be smart enough write off the 20bucks and do the job right and proudly market on that fact .
I suppose pretty easy buy some slides and might get good price if moan as a potential or new customer .
IMO best low cost boxes are menards masterforce, lever latch is even better on those, maybe too many deep drawers for some but they built well .

Summit Racing also has these boxes. Regular price on their website is close to NAPA sale prices. Better pricing that Homak’s website. Freight shipping for me with the 54” box is $120. So that seems reasonable for freight shipping to a residential address.

The masterforce boxes look ok, but thinner steel (18gv19g) and like you said the drawer layout is kind of meh. I can't see if they double slide the top drawer either

They're a little cheaper from Summit, but if you have to pay shipping its a little more expensive from them, and they dont ship out tell 1/2/19 which is when I start my job. Here's hoping homak gets me mine in time!

I cant believe NAPA cant get you a box soon enough. What box and what color? I just stopped Thursday to check availability on a blue 54” and there were a few around the east coast.

By the way, I was quoted $18.20 per caster plus shipping for the 6” swivel casters on the 54” and 72” boxes. So when I get my 54” I think I’ll order an extra pair of slides for the top drawer while I am ordering casters.

Not sure why most companies don’t spec their 72” boxes with all swivel casters. Huge pain to move the box into position in a small space.

Orange or black, 54" or 72" would be fine if that was available. I called three of them, and one of them my cousins worked at for like the last 20 years, said no luck.

Masterforce is double slides.
not too bothered over 1 gauge size as way it formed and amount of welds more important .
Biggest issue for me be drawer layout and the homak more to my liking .
My 2 dislikes on Homak is latch being on inside of drawer and no double slide on 54" which silly when it exactly same drawers size as the 72" box !
Is minor issues
Hope you like the 54" box, easy enough turn it into a 3 bay with the hangon if need more space in time.
Hope the job turns out great too ...

Yeah very true. The craftsmanship based on the pics looks solid, hopefully has some good welds! I'm excited, now I gotta upgrade a few other tools and move things outta my home box.

Thanks, hoping it goes great too, I'm a little nervous to start as you hear of so many jaded techs, but tis not flat rate and they offer profit sharing after one year, among some other very positives.

On an unrelated note, any opinion on WrightGrips vs Carlyle, and any idea if the Capri ratching wrenches are solid?

carlyle 19pc on a real deal . Stahlwille and toptul do some world class wrenches if no need for open end grip (would get that on capri ratchet wrenches)
Chrome not that durable on the Wrights (based on my set)
Capri 100 tooths can be found under other brands as just taiwan oem rebranded .
I not keen on straights, reversible or flexi what I use most (all types useful)
Best bang for buck pro usable is facom IMO .

Maybe they need to recheck with their warehouse because unless you want something faster than stock order items are always just added to freight free shipments to the end user at my three suppliers. I understand the warehouse may never stock them but most companies I deal with just add items to normal stock orders that qualify for free freight and just add it to them and it just shows up on their schedule not mine when I can wait.

The problem as it was explained to me was that there wasn't one in their warehouse network, the only one they could find was in a store or something like that. Manager told me shipping would have to be paid on it either way, if it was in their warehouse I could have gotten it shipped for free. No worries tho, prices at summit look nice on the 72" just gotta save up a bit more coin to make it happen.

I ordered my 54" box from Homak awhile ago and called last week to confirm it would ship sometime this week. They reassured me it should ship early this week and be here in just a few days. Unfortunately I dont have a tracking number, so I dont know if their website ***** or what's going on. Going to call in the morning

My box is picked up and headed my way. Should be here on the 27th - 28th, got a tracking number for a YRC shipment from Homak. Not sure why they don't email that to their customers....but oh well, its in route!

For those looking at the boxes on summits website, I believe directly from Homak to be cheaper with the free shipping. Just need to buy through their weekly sales page instead of elsewhere on the website, as it still lists full price.

Finally got my hands on mine. Great box, really feels quality. The drawers are a tad stiff, but they're loosening up as I fill them. Need to order some Ernst socket organizers to finish up the top drawer. Still changing things around looking for the proper layout. So far I'm emptying a HF 5 drawer into it and its insanely more organized, although its nearly full already:lol_hitti

Mine showed up yesterday but we had snow (and rain/ice) coming down so I just had to leave it packaged in the box and left it in the bed of the truck. Got to bring it up to my new job today tho and unboxed and open it, pretty damn nice, but it is just a tool box after all.

The paint is excellent and looks pretty thick, grease-able casters, which I don't know if my HF box has/had? Never looked cause we removed them. My drawers too are a little stiff, some more than others, but the grease in the slides is also probably heavy with it being 11F here

Drawer liners are all cut and perfect to size, slides feel really nice but the top drawer only has one slide as noted previously which is a little sad. Stainless top is a bonus, and should be nice to work on. Excited to work out of it and see how it holds up!

That's a nice work space! The tool chest ain't so bad either...jealous.

Has anyone seen the flyer for the RS Pro side locker and cabinets? I could have sworn I saw it on here but, can't seem to find it. I know they are not for sale yet. I just wanted to get a good look at them.

Chrisnazzy,

Thank you! I'm patiently waiting for my 54" blue box to come in and I'm already looking at how to expand it.

I managed to snag a 41" chest in black on Amazon. Now to wait for a deal on a 72" roller to put it on. :)

I really like the side lockers and cabinets, I hope they sell well.

Anyone tried to mount a hutch on one of these yet? I am wanting a budget 72” box but really would like a hutch also. The only one I saw that I think would work with these is the John Deere 72” hutch.

https://www.deere.com/en_US/product...cabinets/72_in_top_hutch/72_in_top_hutch.page

Of course you’d have to get the green toolbox and the color probably wouldn’t match but I’d be ok with that. Plus I may be able to throw some paint on the hutch if need be.

My 41” combo arrived today. I was so scared at first as i was the last delivery and when the driver opened the near empty trailer the chest and cabinet had toppled over. I was mainly concerned about the top chest as it had the furthest to fall. Thankfully, upon inspection, everything checked out. I am not sure how the freight company strapped it, but Homak had it each piece individually boxed and the two pieces were steel banded together. Thankfully Homak boxed up their unit very well.

I havent spent much time with it yet, besides putting it together. I will provide a review later after using it some.

And for a color reference, the Miata orange is 3M fluorescent orange wrapping vinyl.

Mmm... More pics of your orange & white Miata please - with the orange RS Pro 41” as well! Have the same combo box and a few NA Miatas. Like your style. :)

I can't find that locker online. Not on Homaks site either. I wonder what the price is? Might be an alternative to Snap On.
